Double booked and dead carts
A nice golf course ruined by mismanagement. We had a 2:06 tee time through GolfNow. When we arrived, morning groups had not made it in. There were no carts. After waiting a half hour past our tee time for carts, they finally became available. However, what we met off the 10th tee where we started was a double booked golf course that was absolutely packed with people. I’m not even sure how long our first nine took. The pace was so bad, that we had a cart die on us (because they had no time to charge), and even after waiting for a replacement cart, we ran into the groups in front of us. The group behind us knew the pace was so bad that they didn’t even play through. This was 4 holes in. We then had the next cart die on our 7th hole and I had to push it with my cart for two holes to get us back to the clubhouse. We were able to blow through our second nine as groups in front of us seemed to give up and leave in the twilight hours. Just an unacceptable arrangement. I would’ve rather been refunded and turned away with an explanation than experienced probably the worst golf course experience I’ve ever had.
Poor Experience at best
Had a tee time set for 2:06PM. Showed up around 1:45PM and waited for a cart until 2:30, and several groups were waiting behind us as well. Started on 10, and the cart died on 13. We ended up getting a cart from the group behind us due to them having a single player in a cart willing to let us have it. Played 3 more holes and that cart also died. The guy with the other cart in our group pushed us with his cart on 17 and 18 so we could make it to the clubhouse. Don’t book so many tee times if you can’t guarantee a functional cart. Just seemed to be overbooked and over priced for the experience we had. Took 4:30 to play the round. Course and clubhouse were fine, no complaints there. But, the overbooking and cart experience were poor at best. Not worth the $88 we paid on GolfNow.
Great Course
We play Willbrook every time we visit Litchfield and are never disappointed.
Fun, forgotten about course!
Kind of a forgotten course on the south end. Had a great time playing here! Staff was very friendly. Had some great laughs with the bag drop guys as they loaded us up. Course was in great condition!
Hopeful to get there and play again soon!
How To Ruin A Perfect Golf Trip!
Will NEVER step foot on this place again!
There were seven of us in our group on a Waccamaw Golf Trail package that included Founders Club, River Club, True Blue, and Willbrook Plantation. You couldn't have asked for a better experience on the first three of the four; the courses were in good shape (especially True Blue), and the staff were cordial and laid-back. That came to a screeching halt once we drove up to Willbrook Plantation! We were met with a very agitated bag drop guy who informed us we were late and had "5 minutes to get to the first tee!" We actually had 15 minutes before our scheduled tee-time but when I mentioned that to the starter, he said that's "ball in flight" not arrival to the tee box. Well, we rush to get to the first tee only to wait a good 5 minutes for the previous group to get out of the way. That wait continued on each shot throughout the remainder of the round. Suffice it to say that our group of seven were very upset by the whole experience and will not be returning to Willbrook Plantation. It's a real shame that what was lining up as a perfect golf trip was soiled by this display of overt rudeness!
Good,fair golf course,excellent layout
We play Willbrook at least twice every year while we’re here for three weeks.Conditions are constantly good and staff is always friendly!
Disappointed
Greens ok. Fairways terrible and tee boxes too. Just not like it used to be. Expected more.
Poor proshop service
We played the front nine and went directly to 10 tee. When we arrived there were 4 groups waiting to tee off. The pro shop let a 9 hole men's group out in front of us. When we said that was not right the pro shop manager did not care. He said that they would let us play in the middle of this league. We drove 1000 mile to have a golf vacation and this happened. It is too bad because the.golf course was great.
Hidden gem in Myrtle Beach area
Willbrook Plantation Review, Pawleys Island area, SC. - played on May 19, 2020. Tees and fairways were in very good condition with very limited areas of sparse grass. Greens were very well grown in with moderate speed and some nice contour on many of them. Amount of fairway and green-side bunkering is average and well maintained considering absence of rakes due to coronavirus. Single cart ridership allowed without surcharge. Layout of course is above average with many holes tree-lined and good mix of straight and dogleg holes. Water comes into play on wayward shots on a half dozen holes. Senior tees playing just over 5,800 yards and enables most par-4’s and 5’s to be reached in regulation for average length player whereas the white tees are challenging at just under 6,300 yards. Clubhouse open with limited dining indoors but outdoors is an option and the pro shop well stocked with friendly staff, including the cart attendants. Practice green is modest in size and a small driving range is available.
Overall I would rank this course as above average for the greater Myrtle Beach area and a place that most golfers would want to return to a second time. If you make the correct club collection off the tees, avoid the odd lost ball (the trees are not defined as penalty areas) and make a couple of birdies, you should be able to improve on my 82.
On a final note, don’t forget to FIX YOUR DIVOTS!
Trees In the way Everywhere
The golf course layout itself isn’t bad. But the 1st hole has a tree right in front of the green which affects all approach shots. There are tree limbs are in the way on multiple holes. Range balls were not included which is always a major negative in my book. The staff was very friendly. But another negative was there was no drink cart on a Sunday. It was sunny and 85 out this is a big mistake by the golf course. The range is very small. We had 9 players in our group and we filled the entire range. Also the holes had to be in the same place for multiple days because there was damage around several holes. There are better value courses in the founders club package.
Tree overgrowth hinders otherwise solid golf
Willbrook Plantation has always been well-regarded along the southern Grand Strand and for some reason, I've always been a little cooler on it than others seem to be. It does have one of the best, toughest opening holes in the area, but the rest of the golf course provides relatively few highs from that point forward.
The open holes on the back nine - 11 through 14 - are solid, but otherwise, the overgrowth of some otherwise lovely live oaks makes the corridors quite narrow and frustrating for higher handicaps. There is a lot of potential at Willbrook, though.
Our favourite track in MB!!
I don't think there is a member of our group that doesn't like this golf course! Its on our itinerary every year. We love the overall feel of this course, the history surrounding you on multiple holes, and the natural beauty of the low country area.
This course condition has never been an issue with any of us. Yes the greens are different then we are used to but thats part of travelling and playing different courses.
Staff has always been friendly and treated us well, minus one old course marshal years ago that didn't like how/where we had parked our cart, and he took offence to that.
Our group really enjoys this course, and you know it will be apart of our trip again this fall!!
Nice Layout, Playable Course
I thought this golf course was very playable (wide fairways) and in good shape. Nice layout. The greens are the old Bermuda greens - a thicker blade of grass. The only down side were the greens. They were slow and bumpy.
