Augustine Golf Club
About
Carved from Stafford County's rolling, emerald green hills, Augustine Golf Club plays across a scenic landscape abundant with mature pines and hardwoods. The pristine white bunkers and the lush fairways contrast nicely with the trees. The course conveniently sits just 30 miles from the Washington Beltway. In 2011 when the golf course was acquired by Raspberry Golf Management, who are responsible for several courses in the area, Augustine underwent major renovations that increased its playability. The greens, fairways, rough, bunkers, and tee boxes were all redone. The layout offers a challenge but is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Included in a round of golf at Augustine are range balls and unlimited use of the driving range, which has different targets and a large putting green.

Good course, needs some small improvements
Patches of the fairway had little grass, but whole course was playable. Sand traps were rock hard and others were better, very hit or miss. Club making an effort to improve the course, very fun layout in the Virginia hills and the topography plays into the course more than others in the area. Tougher, but fair
By no means am I a pro golfer or any good but this course was great and fun. We were the first group off the tee for the day and the Marshall let us know the details on the course and gave us fair warning the fairways are Bermuda grass and haven’t fully grown in. The greens were pristine as well. We found the only downfall being that the food and refreshment didn’t open till 8 and our tee time was 0754. The cart girl got to us at 1015 and that was the only time. Other than that, we enjoyed our time out.
Worst condition!
Fairways, bunkers, tee box, greens are all below average condition!! Waste of money to play here
Better conditions than expected, interesting layout
I don't play Augustine often and was expecting poor conditions based on recent reviews. While a couple of greens had some areas roped off, they had mostly healed and were in good shape, as were the bunkers. With the fairways going to winter mode, hard to judge them.
The round started poorly, with a glacial pace over the first 6-7 holes, but broke free later in the round, resulting in 4 1/2 hours overall, not too bad.
The layout is strong, as with most Jacobsen courses. With a slope +/-140, depending on tees, there's plenty of trouble, but -- apart from No. 2-- no hole seems too difficult. There are a lot of semi-blind shots, meaning the hole unfolds gradually, but you have a good sense of where to hit it. For example, No. 10 feeds downhill and to the right; a well-placed drive will bounce right just out of sight but perfectly in position for an approach to the green. Good mix of Par 3's. No. 1 opens with a split fairway and No. 2 is an extremely intimidating double-water-carry long Par 4, but after that, it's OK.
While somewhat hilly and routed through a subdivision, it's a perfectly reasonably course to walk.
Way too slow
On a perfect day, we only completed 14 holes in 5.5 hours! NEVER going back on a weekend for sure.
Poor conditions at a premium price
Many of the greens have roped off under repair areas, bunkers full of mud and water with a mixture of grasses and weeds in the fairways. Cart paths need to be repaired but are just roped off or poorly patched. In its current condition this course is not worth half what they are charging for green fees. I was once a member here and was sad to see how bad the conditions were at Augustine GC.
Tough
Good course! Front nine very difficult for average player!! Back is more forgiving! Bring lots of balls if your a bogey player!
For as many stars that this course rated, it was in bad shape. Needs a ton of maintenance. 5 temp greens, very muddy and a lot of sand in the greens. I would try again after the maintenance is complete.
Course shape
5 greens were under construction. Grass had been mowed and all clippings had been left on the course. The greens that were not underconstruction were in terrible condition. They had crab grass and dead spots. I did not ha r one true roll all day. Not worth your money stay away.
Paying premium for nothing
I played today, and it was genuinely one of the worst experiences I’ve had golfing in a long time. The fairway was fine for the most part, sands were not kept up even in the slightest, and the greens were in horrible condition. I am truly disgusted with how much it costs to play and what you get for your money. We got a “hot deal” for $57 on a tee time that usually costs around $70 and the maximum I should have paid for those course conditions was $30. Stuck behind a walking foursome, who I can only assume were members, of which we approached 4 different times at tee boxes, while I was with one partner and we were in a cart, and they refused to let us play through. The Marshall was a good guy though, I guess that’s what the $40 extra was for.
