Ahhh, the day is finally here. In a few hours, I’m off to Scotland for the mother of all golf trips. 15 days, 15 or more courses, and many, many pints and whiskey with friendly Scotsmen.
College football, hockey, even the World Series can take a backseat for this voyage to golf’s motherland. This trip is All Golf, All the Time (aside from the ocassional distillery tour or trek up the Royal Mile or hot bath where I soak my aching muscles…I haven’t walked a course in quite some time you know…).
Regions include Edinburgh, Glasgow, Highlands, St. Andrews and central. Courses include Turnberry, Carnoustie, Royal Dornoch, Gleneagles and more. I’ll also be checking out this new Trump resort near Aberdeen, and I’m curious what locals and neighboring courses have to say about it.
I’m also in the lottery for the Old Course at St. Andrews, where I find out the day before my possible tee time whether I…have…been…CHOSEN!!
That’s drama over watching any football or baseball game, for sure.
And ever since I used to watch the movie “Babe” repeatedly growing up, I have wanted to check out a Scottish countryside where sheep are being herded by the masses, maybe even by an adorable little pig that never seems to grow fat and less cute.
I’m also banking every day will be 75 and sunny, so no need to bring a windbreaker. I might leave the long pants at home too. I mean its only October, how bad could the weather be in the isles…?
Should be fun, and I’ll be writing non-stop about it. Last night I had a vision I aced the “Postage Stamp” at Royal Troon. Stay tuned…
