Tiger Woods Golf Design sounds expensive

Anyone ever see that Seinfeld where George buys a car because he thinks the former owner was Hollywood actor Jon Voight?

Well in a few years, golfers will be shelling out big cash to play what they think are courses finely crafted by golf’s Best Seller: Tiger Woods.

Some poor saps even think these courses will be built in the image of Woods’ game himself. Get ready for more “playable for all abilities” resort golf with wide fairways and everything is shown in front of you with houses to the sides.

Does anyone really think Woods himself is going to be designing these courses? He’s in the prime of his golf career and ultra competitive as it is. He’s after majors, not the Top 100 on Golf Magazine, for now. The man’s biting off more than he can chew and it doesn’t make much sense for him to spend much time on this venture.

Jack Nicklaus was well past the prime of his career before getting serious about design in the mid-80s. Palmer was, well he never really had much to do with the design wing of his empire anyways. But Woods is on the cusp of his finest years. I don’t see him getting behind a bulldozer very often, if ever. How many courses are we talking about anyways in a saturated U.S. golf course market and highly skeptical real estate market?

TWD = better on-course housing values, astronomical greens fees and more money for Tiger and his peeps. I don’t see a single Woods signature course costing under $300 per round. I don’t see a course without some housing development on it either.

I also don’t see myself ever playing a TW signature with my own cash.
Just what the game needs: more all-show, big name courses priced out of most budgets.

I do however see a possible bunker shaped as a Nike Swoosh. Doesn’t sound as cute as the little Mickey bunker at Disney.

Sidebar: I’ve never heard of an LPGA player or woman in general designing golf courses. Will it ever happen…?

$25 million? I read from one source that the initial design fee will be $25 million or 10x what Nicklaus gets!

As with Mark james from our company a World of Golf Ltd. I am sure Tiger will have an imput into the golf architecture of the courses he puts his name to even if it designing a single signature hole. At present Tiger is rumoured to be using an American golf course architecture team, probably ASGCA with Tom Fazio. Most of the best pro golfers are using their name to promote golf course design so why not Tiger?
