Wal-Mart a good place for golfers to load up on supplies

The Cheap Bastard likes to shop. Which, ironically, goes against everything he stands for. You see, my friends, the Cheap Bastard is an enigma, don’t even try to figure him out.

So today I went down to one of the 17 Wal-Marts in town, said hello to the friendly, elderly greeter, and bought myself a golf-club travel case for just $30. A perfect gift for a traveling golfer, provided you aren’t one of those types of people who believe Wal-Mart is plotting total world domination.

Because the Cheap Bastard is the type of person that could care less who dominated the world, I also picked up a bag of 48 recycled balls for $20. These are helpful because El Cheapo has a slice that can cut through a can then through a tomato.

Ahh, Wal-Mart. Some day you too will be clamoring to join the instantly infamous “Cheap Bastard Discount Club.”

Personally, I find the BEST deals can be found at grage sales and estate sales. I just watched an entire set on Lynx clubs (bag and all) go for $15.00. Too bad they were left handed or they would be in my garage! "Experienced Pro V1 golf balls can be had for less than $5.00/dz.

Ebay also has some incredible deals, if you have the time. I picked up a brand new Cobra SZ 400 driver for $100.00.

GolfInstruction.com as well as the Equipment and Equipment Review pages of TravelGolf.com and WorldGolf.com have some great information on what to shop for.

Good points, David, and a very nice score on the Cobra.

The Cheap Bastard would love to use an $80,000 driver specially made by NASA from materials they mined off Mars, but that's unlikely to happen.

Still, regular Joe's like us can even the playing field some if we keep our eyes open, either online or around our homes.

Recently I bought a set of clubs at Wal-Mart. They have the name Foremost on them. It is a partial set. Woods 1 and 3, and Irons 5, 7, 9 and SW. Also a hybrid and putter. Love the irons and wonder if it is possible to find a 4. 6. 8 and pw? They are oversize with large flanges. The rest of the set is just so-so. If anyone knows the answer for the irons, I would like to hear from you.
