Saved big money on golf products? The Cheap Bastard's readers want to know how you did it
Add commentsThe Cheap Bastard loves to hear from his many admirers, provided they don’t call collect.
That being said, a reader going by the name New Golfer (why would anyone use a fake name on the Internet?) wrote in with a couple ideas for saving money.
“Two great ways to save on clubs. One: Make friends with the staff at your local golf course. I’m told they get at least one lost club each day. If no one claims them, after a while they sell them - cheap. I recently saw a very nice wedge for sale for $5. Two: Thrift stores and pawn shops. You have to be patient and willing to look around, but I’ve seen nice clubs for sale in a thrift store for $1 per club,” wrote the New Golfer.
This advice seems logical enough. However, the Cheap Bastard is a seeing-is-believing kind of guy. So what I’d like is this: Readers who have made a big score from a thrift store, pawn shop or golf course, let us know about it and how you did it. You have a used Calloway you bought for $10 at a thrift store? If it’s golf related and you saved big money, let us know.
Saving money isn’t pretty like the Cheap Bastard, my friends. Sometimes you need to get in the dirt and rummage around for a deal. Well, tell us your story. This Cheap Bastard, after all, is very accepting of dirty people.

I have to say that eBay is a great source for low-cost golf equipment. I purchased a set of custom setup BANG irons (3-SW +LW +GW) with graphite shafts and tour wrap grips for $150.00 shipped.
Also, 'rockbottomgolf' (add the www and .com to that) is a great source for cheap stuff.
Keep up the good work!
I am a new golfer, however my husband has been golfing for years. I know that he has made three sets of golf clubs from a pawn shop. One set of Dunlops he baught from a pawn shop for $80. Including three drivers, eight irons, a putting wedge, and a putter. All they needed were new grips and to be cleaned up a bit. I just recently got a barley used set of Wilson womens clubs for $35 at a garage sale. Full set. There was no bag so I hit the clearence at the local golf shop. If you look around something you are looking for will show up. (if you want new you have to shell out the money though)
