Bored with just being known as a place where old people used to go to watch Shecky Greene and Pat Boone, the Poconos are looking to golf to help expand its tourism base.

Not a bad idea, as the Poconos have some of the nation’s oldest, most revered golf courses. The good news for you, my cheap golfing friends, is that many of the courses up there in the Pennsylvanian back woods are offering some great deals.

The Evergreen Golf Club is offering a deal for weekend foursomes. If you schedule your round for before 7:30 a.m. or after 3 p.m., you and your buddies will play for just $25, which includes the cart.

Split Rock Golf Course has deals throughout the week for ladies, seniors and two-for-one green fees on Thursdays. The Fernwood Hotel & Resort is offering seniors a round of golf for $25, anytime through the end of the golfing season.

Unfortunately, the Poconos Garlic Festival has already come and gone, but there are more than 35 courses and resorts in the Poconos area, so make sure to call ahead and find out what kind of deal you can get.
