The Cheap Bastard loves Pittsburgh. First of all, the Steelers play there. Second, it’s a town that survived losing its blue-collar economy and re-invented itself as a white-collar town. And finally, the Steelers play there.

So when Chris Balding, I mean, Chris Baldwin, spent some time 30 miles north of Pittsburgh in beautiful Butler County, I was understandably concerned that he’d bring both myself and my beloved Steelers some bad mojo.

On the contrary, however. Somehow Baldwin managed to slip through a time zone and find some of the cheapest golf you can find. Baldwin actually gloated about this in his blog a while back, but I’m pretty sure people were so surprised that he wasn’t writing about Michelle Wie that it just didn’t connect.

Baldwin’s coming out with several stories about Butler County golfing that will give you an idea of the values and quality of the 20-some courses there. The Bastard’s advice? Try Dubbs Dred. For $15 you can play 18, with cart.

Butler County is chock full of swell courses at unbelievable prices. And for this, I can only say: Go Steelers!!!!!!

Finally, recognition of the northeast's phenomenal golf. There are Butler Counties (with different first names, of course) scattered all across Ohio, PA, NY, and CT. Kind of makes the "golf destination" tag for other places a bit overrated.

I dont think anyone with half a brain takes baldwin seriously. For anyone who's out of the loop. one of his great predictions was that Retief goosen is done as a major player after he had his meltdown at the us open.
I wonder what mr baldwin's opinion is about Retief Goosen these days. Anyone care to join me on this subject.

Has Retief Goosen won a major I somehow missed since turning into a Pinehurst puddle? I go on some benders, Stevie, but even this bad golfer couldn't have slept through that.
A few President Cup match wins does not make a major champion. When Tiger's in the China Masters and European Masters field and Retief wins, get back to me.

I just realized. I say dumb things to that i want to take back but for pride sake i stick with my original opinion. I think Conan O'Brien said it the best "When all else fails there's always delusion"

The cheapest golf is free. There is a free course in Sharon, PA. The official name is "Buhland", but the locals call it "Dum Dum". Have no idea where the name comes from. Built by a steel magnate for the town about 90 years ago. No par 5's, two par 3's. No carts-have to walk. Sign in and play. Across the street from the country club, across another street from the free tennis courts.
