It’s like paradise for a golf fan here at the PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. First of all, there’s enough golf equipment here to make our own Kiel Christianson wet himself. At least more than usual. Then, there are the golfing stars: Annika Sorenstam, Greg Norman, Jim Furyk, Fred Funk, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Mark McCumber and Chi Chi Rodriguez are all here, which is very exciting. Oh, who am I kidding. I just want to see Creamer. She’s Babe-tacular. I’ll try and find out when she’s going to go the Sophie Sandolo/Natalie Gulbis route and ... full post »

2006 PGA Merchandise Show a hit for golfers and more

Friday January 27, 2006 | 05:50:21 192 words, 1473 views
Sure the Cheap Bastard has been called a ghost – probably due to the creamy white complexion. Makes a guy stand out when the majority of his blogger colleagues are a refreshing shade of orange. Here at the PGA Merchandise Show & Convention this weekend at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., one would need to be a specter to be able to see all the displays. For me, first its over to La Jolla Club Golf Company to take a look at their drivers and take advantage of their free “long-drive” competition. Sure it’s only for ladies and juniors, ... full post »

Surprise, surprise: Deals still available for chilly travelers

Tuesday January 24, 2006 | 07:32:20 190 words, 2183 views
The Cheap Bastard loves nothing better than to spend hours curled up in front of the television, watching the gloriously talented Heather Tesch on The Weather Channel. We Bastards just have a thing for weather women who look constantly surprised. Heather Tesch finds the Cheap Bastard shocking But aside from enjoying Heather T’s endless air of astound, ol’ CB here has been watching The Weather Channel just to trip out on how crazy cold it is in a lot of the United States right now. It’s pretty much below freezing from the Mid-Atlantic to Michigan. So for those of you that want out, ... full post »

Wednesday January 18, 2006 | 12:13:21 103 words, 1482 views
Like all golfers, the Cheap Bastard can go through some golf balls during a round. And like many, I’m always looking for good balls on the cheap. Here’s a place to fill up your golf ball needs, and do it for less: KnetGolf.com. At KnetGolf.com, you can get used balls online in perfect condition, Grade A, Grade B, Grade C or range balls. Here’s a deal that works for me: Three dozen assorted X-out balls, in Grade A condition for just $10.99. Just perfect for a golfer who tends to find water constantly, and always needs to spend more on golf balls. full post »

Baldwin lays off Michelle Wie, finds a $10 Scottsdale golf deal

Monday January 16, 2006 | 11:11:11 195 words, 1071 views
Unless it comes to matters proboscis, the Cheap Bastard is not picky. Which is why a new story at GolfArizona.com quickly got my attention, sending my body into fits of glee, which gives some the impression of a gelatin-filled trash bag being shaken. It seems our pal Chris Baldwin has taken some time of railing on the immaculately beautiful and talented Michelle Wie to find a golf course that even your loyal Cheapness won’t have to sneak on to. It’s Cypress Golf Course in Scottsdale, and they’ve gone mad, I tell you, mad. For just $10, you can play a round at Cypress. ... full post »

Shake off that hangover and find the golf deals now

Friday January 6, 2006 | 06:42:09 165 words, 1158 views
The Cheap Bastard tends to lose out on many golf deals because he tends to need to stay in bed until April to fight off his New Year’s hangover. But for those of you who don’t extend their New Year’s parties until Valentine’s Day, now’s the time to grab last year’s golf equipment at ridiculous prices. Any golf store you visit or golf equipment Web site you surf to are pushing to clear out stock, or “move some merchandise” as the kids like to say. Case in point, I just cruised over to Golfoutlet.com and found a deal for two Etonic AC ... full post »
