Golfers in Austin know the name Harvey Penick, but do they know it's public?
The Cheap Bastard is pretty touchy about his real first name and prefers it be clouded in mystery like Kramer’s first name was in “Seinfeld.” (Editor’s Note: It’s Percy.)
That being said, I was reading an upcoming story by Bill Wolfrum (William K.?? Whatever, Mr. Fancypants) about The First Tee of Greater Austin and their course, the Harvey Penick Golf Campus. They’re working hard over there in Texas to make sure kids grow up correctly and can get up and down from a sand trap. For teaching kids to not be such smart alecks, The First Tee is Ok.
But in Austin, the problem is that people don’t know the Harvey Penick Golf Campus is a public course. Sure it’s just nine-holes, but it’s a PGA layout that’s well maintained. It’s also just $11 to play. Or $17 if you want to play all day.
So, Austin golfers, this is a name to remember: Harvey Penick Golf Campus. It’s there for The First Tee, but it always has openings for the public, so give them a call at (512) 926-1100 and look for the story about The First Tee of Greater Austin at GolfTexas.com.
