A new American idol gives the dish on travel, while Georgia is on our mind

The Cheap Bastard has long admired young journalists. They tend to be just so embarrassingly earnest and driven. And, often they tend to be hot, like Forbes’ Sophia Banay, a true American idol.

Sophia Banay

The adorable Ms. Banay has a story at Forbes right now that talks about the fact that now more than ever, people are booking vacations early.

“Out of all the Americans planning to travel this summer, 30% are finalizing transportation and accommodation bookings earlier this year than they did in 2005, with 38% having booked transportation and 21% having made lodging reservations before the end of March – both percentages higher than they were last year,” writes Princess Banay.

So now that I’ve dazzled you with cute reporters and actual statistics that include percentages (the sign of a quality blog), where is it you should be making plans for?

Well, the Masters hogs the spotlight this time of year, so why not try heading down to Georgia to enjoy some of the great, and amazingly cheap golf they have in their state parks system.

There are plenty of courses to play, like the Lakes in Waycross,Ga. There, you’ll be playing a course that borders the Okefenokee Swamp.

Like all the Georgia State Park golf courses, the Lakes will give you a great day on the course, while off course you’ll have hiking trails and the spectacular views you’d expect from the Peach State.

Oh yeah, and you can usually play any of the state park courses for less than $25. Check out their Web site for more info.

Remember, if you go, tell them a sexy, young reporter sent you – the Cheap Bastard.
