Golfers in New Jersey get low green fees from business-savvy officials

If there’s one thing the Cheap Bastard can appreciate, it’s good business sense. Like whoever started Krispy Kremes. Making great donuts. Now there’s a great idea. Another great business idea is to give free donuts to people who praise your donuts. But you didn’t hear that here. One last sign of good business sense comes from Atlantic City, where Atlantic County – faced with losses at its golf courses – decided to lower green fees in order to attract more golfers. From the Press of Atlantic City: “The cost of a weekday round of golf for a noncounty resident is now $12 between Nov. 1 and March 15, and $21 between March 16 and Oct. 31, according to an ordinance adopted recently by the Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The old fees were $28 between April 1 and Sept. 30, and $24 between Oct. 1 and March 31, according to the county Web site.” County officials are also looking to have the golf courses provide better service, and they will begin a marketing campaign for the courses, among other things. Golfers in that part of New Jersey should benefit, so good job to Atlantic County officials. It’s rare to compliment government officials around here, and if the kind folks at Atlantic County want to send me some Krispy Kremes for my efforts, well, nobody’s stopping them.
