The Cheap Bastard has long been an international traveler. Provided you’re willing to consider Tijuana to be an international destinations. But Cheapness here can’t get enough of seeing new cultures, enjoying exotic food, and, of course, the donkeys.

These days, however, even if you’re looking to take a quick trip to an exotic locale like Toronto, you’re going to need a passport. Because as the Cheap Bastard has mentioned before, new laws require everyone, including U.S. citizens, who are entering or re-entering the U.S. and traveling by air between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central, and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda, will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner document. These new rules went into effect on Jan. 29, so now if you want to travel outside this great land of ourse, you need a passport.

With Spring and Summer on the horizon and people starting to make some travel plans, your pal El Cheapo decided now would be a good time to give travelers a refresher on some of the ways you can defray the cost of getting a passport and enjoy great deals in tropical locations.

Luckily, my good pal (I hesitate to call him a “best friend’ but we’re tight) Herb Weisbaum at MSN.com has written up a pretty definitive look at the how, whys, wheres and whos of getting the best deals for getting your passport. You can take a look at Herbie’s story by clicking here.

So get your passport, get traveling and save money just like the Cheap Bastard. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to crawl in a bottle of tequila. I’ll find that damned worm eventually.
