Forget Ted Ginn, Jr. and enjoy Miami's great golf deals

Many people wonder what life is like for the Cheap Bastard. Well, yours truly lives a life that’s a lot like “Miami Vice.” Lots of high-speed car chases, gunfights and taking down the bad guys. Ok, maybe my life is nothing like that. But I do agree that the Miami Dolphins are morons for taking Ted Ginn Jr., so I fit right in down there.

Plus, El Bastardo does get full enjoyment from the golf in Miami. And now that May 1 has clicked by us on the calendar, you can golf in this great South Florida golf destination for less.

With the heat ready to rise, that means green fees are starting to dive here in Miami and the savings start at Miami’s biggest name - Doral. Yes, there are even great deals at the Blue Monster at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa.

When the season peaks, this is a course that will cost you about $300 a round. On June 21, however, Doral holds its “Summer Solstice Slam” where you can take advantage of the year’s longest day by playing the Blue Monster, the Great White and the Red course for a total of $150. Plus you get food and drinks with that. That’s a savings of nearly $600 from its top fees by the way.

There are other deals, as well, including a round at the Champion Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens for $155, down from $281. But here’s something more my style: Johnny LaPonzina’s summer Golf Bonanza.

Starting May 21, for just $32, you get all the golf and range balls you want, and a buffet lunch at Palm-Aire Country Club, which has five courses, and Miami Shores Country Club.

So if you live in South Florida, or are heading there, now is the time to start cashing in on some early summer golf savings.
