Reader Keith Johnson makes an excellent point in noting that the equipment company Titleist is the only one associated with American golf responding to English golfer’s Paul Casey’s “I-hate-Americans” rant. This is what it’s come to in our new corporate PC world. Wimps no longer hide behind their mothers. They hide behind their mother corporations.
Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson do not step up and fire back at what was essentially just an admission from Casey that European Ryder Cup team actually cares about winning. (Truly, a foreign concept.) No, they leave that to Titleist. So the ball makers drop Casey’s endorsement contract and turn the youngster into a blabbering, blubbering Englishman not seen since the days Hugh Grant was caught with that Hollywood Boulevard hooker. “I have an American coach! I have an American girlfriend! I eat at McDonald’s!” On and on, Casey goes.
Yeah, we showed him! Way to go…corporation?
It’s enough to make you hate the American golfers’ spineless approach. Wait did, I just say that. There goes my deal with the No. 2 pencil people . Just when you think you have a good endorsement career going…

Why do we need to fire back at Casey? I am a huge sports fan. I grew up playing and watching sports and was a collegiate athlete. In my opinion, all the trash talking and showmanship in sports today has taken away from the games. Maybe Tiger and Phil want to preserve the game of golf as a gentleman's game and don't want to get caught up in all the trash talk. Why does it have to be an eye for an eye?
