Hominy trumps Howell in NJ

Basking in the sunshine of another near 80-degree Las Vegas March day, a passing thought goes to all the devoted golfers I know buried under the blowing snow and ice in New Jersey. In East Coast and Midwest outposts everywhere there are committed hackers just itching for the first sign of thaw.

By now, these guys are already making late March tee times on hope and a sunny dream.

Two of the most sought-after spots in New Jersey will be the heavy-touted Monmouth County-operated courses, Hominy Hill and Howell Park. While both get glowing reviews and star ratings in places like Golf Digest, Hominy Hill is by far the better play. The course is more challenging and varied, the service is better. Let the other snowbound fools chase after a Howell Park tee time. Hominy should be your choice.

Hey Chris, I had an interesting experience at Hominy hill in 2003. They were replacing 14 tees and two greens and had...well 14 temp tees and 2 temp greens. Only problem was they didn't reduce the price. It was still the same $62 tag, just minus alot of golf course. I politely inquired that I heard of some courses which discount the price for even aeration and especiallyfor temps. The response I got was "well it costs us just as much to keep the course open." have they completed the renovation? Is it worth $62 in your opinion?
