As a serviceman having recently served in Iraq, I am appalled to have put my life on the line defending the livelihood of scum such as Baldwin. I really don't understand your argument. Michelle Wie is a 15 year old amateur. A 15 year old girl who makes the cut in all the LPGA tournaments she's played in this year is impressive enough. Yet she's had two 2nd place finishes and just now a third place finish in the Women's British Open, but still you whine about how she hasn't won yet?! She's a 15 year old girl! Do you not understand that? What the hell is your problem?

Michelle has THREE 2nd place finishes and ONE 3rd place finish -- in 7 appearances, four of which were majors. Her worst showing this year was a 23rd at the US Open (where was in the lead after 3 round, and even after her one disaster round this year, she ended up tied with ANNIKA). Her record vs. Paula this year is 5-2. Her record vs. Annika in her last four events is 2-1-1 and that "loss" was a 2nd place finish to an Annika that wiped out the field at the McDonalds. I can't believe your are trashing a 15-year-old who has finished in the top 3 for 4 of 7 tournaments against the top women in the world. Most telling stat: her "per round earnings" had she accepted her tournament winnings is 2nd ONLY to ANNIKA, one of the greatest women golfers ever to walk the face of the earth and who is also in her prime. John D.'s statement that she "may" have won the money is stupid (i.e., like there was some doubt that she would have really won this money if she was a pro) -- the only reason she wasn't paid the money was that she didn't accept it -- there is no uncertainty regarding the amount. In fact, the money standings of everyone else is slightly OVERSTATED because every one who finishes below Michelle (and everyone has finished below Michelle at least twice, including Annika) gets money for one place higher than they finished simply because Michelle cannot accept her winnings. Yeah, I realize that mister no-penis Baldwin has a first amendment right to write whatever he pleases. But his latest diatribe is simply mean-spirited with no purpose whatsoever than to trash a sweet 15-year old girl in order to get his 15 minutes of fame. HOW SAD and PATHETIC. I'm not sure I understand how a 15 year old girl that plays and wins in men's events, finishes iin the top 10 time and time again against older women, and competes in PGA events, is OVER HYPED?

Creamer who putted badly and is a winner has ambitions, when interviewed, is to win a (LPGA) major. Wie wants to qualify in the Masters at Augusta next year.
Interviewed she "wants to turn pro next year" 18 is the lpga limit.
At the moment she is getting invites and it does not matter if Wie does not win, as a pro at 18 it would matter and that will be the time to judge

Everybody making these attacks on Baldwin is missing one of the points he's raising. My guess is that none of the comments are coming from anyone who has EVER won a golf tournament, especially from in front. It is an entirely different thing to come from behind. Pressure shows up when you are at or near the lead. Michelle has collapsed twice recently - at the Womens US Open and on the back 9 at John Deere when trying to stay above the cut line. Until she learns how to handle that emotionally, Creamer is the better golfer. I'll bet if you asked Michelle, she take the 2 wins instead of a few more "almosts".

But I disagree that will always be the case. Michelle will likely figure it out as many have done in the past. Most golfers need to lose first before learning how to win.

If you look at the stats from the five major tournaments this year. That is the Evian Masters plus the four Majors you will find that Wie on average position is second only to Annika, and not far behind either. I would say this makes her the second best female golfer in the world.

That's ridiculous. Sports is not about about finishing higher than someone while still losing, or "almost" making the cut. It's about winning. Under your argument, Phil Mickelson must be a better golfer than Tiger Woods because he finished ahead of Tiger in a bunch of tournaments neither won.

Never mind the fact it's 10-1 in majors for Tiger.

Paula Creamer has two LPGA wins. Michelle Wie has none.

I believe Creamer will turn out to be the more successful golfer (in wins, not endorsement hype money). Maybe, I'll be wrong. There's a first time for everything.

But anyone who declares they are sure Michelle Wie will be a sure superstar force are taking an even bigger gamble. The difference is I admit it.

The fact that Michelle hasn't won a tournament doesn't preclude her from being no2. Facts are facts, over the five top tournaments this year Michelle has finished on average in 11th position 1/2 a position behind Annika on 10.5 and 3.25 in front of Paula who has an average of 14.25.
I do think Paula is very good but she can't compete with Wie.

Her game is unparalelled at her age, and she has not even reached her potential. She may not have won any LPGA tournament. But who cares, when your livelyhood does not depend on it. She is just out there having fun, traveling all over the US and Europe playing a sport that she loves. If she had been collecting checks, her earnings would be over $900,000, which would rank her in top 10 in the LPGA money standing. What better way to spend a summer vaction traveling to Europe to play golf. She'll get more money than Tiger because she'll be as popular in Asia as in the US. Stop all the obession with and bashing on Wie. Take a look at yourself in the mirron and ask yourself "how was your golf game when you were 13?" Were you able to hit golf ball 300 yards. LMAO

Chris, I just noticed a sentence in one of you articles re: Michell Wie in which you stated "Wie comes close, usually finding a way, any way, to mentally lose it." Is that what you really believe? Ridiculous, Michelle has had several bad starts in the last 2 tournaments and did splendidly to come back (her 3 final rounds in each of the last 2 tournaments were fantastic.)So to say she finds a way to lose is outright ridiculous, you should really pay more attention to pro golf instead of going to you nightly "white power" mettings. (LOL just kidding)

There is one other thing that could possibly work against Michelle ever reaching her full potential. She is 6 foot tall at 15 years old but could get taller, much taller. And one of the rarest things in golf is a great tall putter. As it is right now, the weakest part of her game by far is that she's only average on the greens.

In only 7 events she has done tremendously well. Only one player can will a tournament, and it is a bit much to say she should win one, when only playing 7. If you put that challenge to Paula Creamer I bet she would fail (I love Paula too).

Don't forget the mens amateur championships. She qualified. Then she got through stroke play (finished in top 64. Then she beat 3 men in match play and got through to the quarter finals. (YES THE LAST EIGHT).

Name any other woman golfer who has got to the quarters of the mens amateur championship. Oops you can't. Infact she is the only female ever to qualify for any stage of these.

She is likely to win soon. To do as well as she has, simply makes her the best 15 year old golfer in the world. You cannot expect her to win full tournaments yet against the BEST golfers in the world. She has far exceeded my expectations in doing to well in all the tournaments she has played thus far.

Imagine any 15 year old boy missing the cut by so little in pga tournaments. No I didn't think you could!

If Mr. Baldwin is sincere in the context of his article, then he has done a great disservice to the one person he is suppossedly trying to support. You would think a professional journalist would know better. Sadly, many people will find themselves rooting against Paula especially when going head to head with Michelle Wie. That's already evident by some of the comments on this site. Paul Creamer seems like a nice young lady who can obviously play and deserves better than that. Niether she or Michelle have done anything to merit being dragged into a controversy such as this.

You may be able to argue that "Michelle Wie has shown no sign she knows anything about winning..." if you were to back this up with evidence, but you tack on "...or ever will." which is purely a pejorative statement (look it up).

You cannot possibly know this after one not-even-half season on the LPGA tour at age 15 and, frankly, your comments detract from the remarkable achievements she managed so far in such a shot time.

I accept that Wie has made herself a target for a lot of narrow-minded criticism in the past 12 months--that was her choice. But face it, she doesn't belong on the junior circuit any more. When you can come second in three pro tournaments (two of them majors), and not miss the cut in any of them, she's found a home with her peers. I doubt she would take much pride (or gain much experience) out of beating up on other 15 year-olds at this.

Who cares if she doesn't win for another couple of season? I don't even know if Wie cares (I know she wants to, but she knows she still has to improve her putting before she can start winning). All I do know is that everyone who knows golf (well, almost everyone) believes she has the talent, ability, and determination to win, and win many times in the future.

Last point. When Wie gets back out on the golf course next summer, you might want to resist the temptation to put up a Wie-bashing blob entry every Saturday night. It's not very clever, and it's certainly not very interesting. You may continue to be "right" for a while, but that would prove absolutely nothing except that you have difficulty finding things to write intelligently about.

Not only did Michelle show she belonged on the professional tour at the very top, when she turns pro on her 16th birthday she will probably make $10-20 million in the blink of an eye.

Michelle Wei is another Tiger Woods. We need them to keep the golf game going. Although a lot of good prospects are emerging as super golf players. Natalie Gulbis has the potential to be an icon. Paula can be up there too. Ochoa has that ability. We need this type of players to draw millions of people to follow this game. It means big bucks for the industry.

To all people who hates Michelle Wie, Thanks a lot we need to stay on top of this. Without your hot and fiery comments then there will be no controversy. More power to you guys. By the way who is better Paula or Michelle. I think Paula is the better one. Michelle probably is good but will not match what Paula can do in the game of golf not popularity contest. Paula should be making the big commercials not Michelle. Natalie Gulbis is probaly the most beautiful golfer I know. Who else?

Michelle Wie is a very good young lady golfer right now and when her game matures a little more,(and it will), then she will become a great lady golfer someday and probably win a few on the men's PGA circuit too. I have no doubt about it.

Michell is very pretty. She has talent. The way she is being handled is destroying any possibility she has to reach her potential. As far as all the koolaid drinking fans go, it wasn't I who compared her to Tiger Woods. Don't you get it? They keep putting her in these men's events she has no chance in and then praise her for taking a chance. What chance? I wouldn't be surprised if many of the women's champions would make the cut for the men's events. But is isn't about making the cut. It is about winning! Get it?

For thoses obsessed with a woman winning the mens' why not just have one golf association regardless of gender? How many women golfers would be able to make a living then?

I have to agree with most of the replies.
And I know that every humanbeings deserves something called freedom of speech, but did you know that there is such a thing as a limit? Some stars or famous people worked their ass off working for where they are today. Do you suppose people like Michelle Wie was born with a talent to golf? Of course not. Most people train and practice like any human being in this planet.

I know alot of people have a right to critisize on mistakes, scandals, or for people like Michelle Wei, what they have in the future. These are all the public input and no law can stop any human from stopping it. However, there is such a thing called conscience that stops you from going to the extreme.

Do you realize stars some worship and curse all the same commit suicide because of extreme criticisms? Some stars are really conscious of what the world views them as and suffers from it.

Michelle Wei is a really young golfer. She has years to learn and years to mature. You can't blaim her for acting her age. Everyone should expect great thihngs from her in the future and urge people like her forward not drag her down. I hope my insight helps your journalism in the future. Thanks
