Chris Baldwin, you actually seem more like a racist than anything else. So sorry you have to report on an Asian kicking your ass at golf, not just at English Literature in your high school days.

Oh my god, you noticed the pink shirt too! Like, if I were Paula Creamer, I'd be, like, really really mad.

And did you see her fake smile during the press conference! She was being all polite and pretending like she's this nice person and everything. Like, give me a break!

I'm so glad you are keeping an eye on her for us. Please keep telling us everything she does wrong!

Wow-you are one disturbed individual Baldwin...

Yes--EVERYONE in the world who wears pink is just trying to be like Paula Creamer.

Obviously you don't know your golf--
years before Creamer started that contrived I LOVE PINK bull--many golfers including Michelle have been wearing pink.
2005-10-05 @ 17:36
Comment from: Kayla [Visitor]

Actually, she wasn't wearing the pink that Creamer likes to wear which is pastel pink --I saw the press conference-Michelle was wearing a darker shade more like a fuchsia rather than pink.

There's about a 3 shade difference btw. the two.

Sorry--I'm a chick and just had to point that out.

Chris Baldwin is a genius.

Who does this Michelle Wie think she is, wearing pink? Does she not know this is Paula Creamer's colour. Nobody else is allowed to wear pink.

In fact there should be a law set up that anyone other than Paula who wears pink will be arrested and get at least a mandatory 2 year jail sentance.

Go Baldwin. Go Creamer.

"Wie" is Korean for "product of incredible hype, and tremendously over-rated", isn't it? With today's equipment, driving a golf ball 300 yards is no big deal. I used to do it with persimmon heads, and steel shafts all the time, when I was in my late teens and early 20's, and I only broke par once in my life. All six members of my local high school's boys golf team consistently drive the ball over 300 yards. Two of them consisently break par, and four of the six have shot at least one round in the 60's this year, on courses that typically are from 6850 to 7100 yards in-length. And this is small-school golf, in rural Ohio. My school's team only managed to finish third in the Ohio high school local sectional tournament, 18 shots behind a team from the small community of Piketon, Ohio.....not exactly a world-famous golf mecca. Four or five of Piketon's players routinely shoot in the 60's. My point is this..... Michelle Wie has been hyped to be almost Goddess-like in her golfing abilities for what has seemed like an eternity. Time for a big-time reality check.....there are hundreds....maybe even thousands, of junior players who could whip her on a daily basis. In fact, there are two girls who recently graduated from a small high school in central Ohio (Marysville) who I KNOW could routinely spank Michelle like a drum. The dirty little secret as to why Michelle is not going to play college golf is that she could not afford (both literally, and figuratively) to be regularly beaten by other teenage girls.

Buckeye--

Michelle is so overrated she has finished ahead of Annika Sorenstam the last 3 tournaments they played with each other.
She's also made every cut on the LPGA tour the last 2 years, and has 3 Top 3 finishes. (2 of those were majors)
Creamer has never even been a runner-up to an LPGA major and Michelle Wie has.
She also scored the lowest score (68) playing against professional men when she was 14.

You're about as ignorant as Baldwin .

However she was not a member of the LPGA so she could not be picked. What kind of an a**hole are you, trying to make out that she doesn't want to play for her country.

To BuckeyeChaz,

Listening to you talk about your buddies and how they get on in crap league golf really shows how little you know about the game.

PGA golf is a completely different thing. Any of your mates who hit scores in the 60's on those golf courses would be hard pushed to break 85 on a PGA course. It is a completely different game and you should give more respect to those who can play with the big boys and show a good account of themselves.

Now she is pro, she will have better caddies. I think Michelle has all the attention and BJ quite wisely stays in the background. I don't think I have ever heard him speak.

If he is there with her, it is because she is 15 years old. She is young and it is only right that her parents are close to her at her age.

Brittany has the longest average drive on the LPGA this year. She is definitely a work in progress, making the cut only about half the time. But who knows what she will be doing in a few years.

She has a 2nd place at the US womens open but little else.

She won an amatuer title at 17, which is very good. However Michelle won this same title at 13.

As regards the other players being pissed off. Most of them are probably pissed off by her 10 million deal. Most of them are also probably pissed off when Michelle finishes way ahead of them in the few tournaments that she is in.

Here is the undeniable truth for the season of 2005.

Top 10's Paula 2, Michelle 4.
Top 15's Paula 3, Michelle 6.
Finishes: Michelle has finished ahead of Paula 5 times. Paula has finished ahead 2 times.

One thing is, why is this a MUCH bigger accomplishment? I thought in your book a win is a win. You've been boosting Creamers bit tournament win as a valid third tournament for her.

As regards winning this Pressel tournament, it was a tournament that Michelle didn't even BOTHER to enter, because winning it would mean little to her. Her accomplishments in the mens amatuer was MUCH better.

She instead went up against the men (the first woman to ever qualify) and got to the quarter final of the mens US AMATUER PUBLIC LINKS (feel free to correct if this is the wrong tournament). How far do you think Pressel would have got? Why do I have a feeling Shanks will ignore that last question!

Winning jr tournaments isn't worth the paper it's written on. I bet you could rhymn off some of Tigers junior achievements ..... BUT how about Ernie Els, or Michelson, or Singh, can anyone name there achievements. No because they don't really matter. At the end of the day, it is big time tournaments which matter.

For example the Evian Masters which Paula won. That matters.

The junior titles are a very nice accomplishment when you are a junior, but when you get older, they don't matter very much at all.

The facts are that Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, and Michelle Wie all had years beyond most peoples expectations in 2005. They each had dissapoinments as well..

Paula Creamer-- Rookie of the Year, Multiple LPGA winner, Solheim Cup member, 2nd on Money List, 2nd in World Rankings (because Wie misses minimum tournament cutoff by two tournamants)
Disappointments-- Only so-so in majors (she is only 18)

Morgan Pressel-- US Women's AM Winner, AJGA PLayer of the year, Junior Solheim Cup member, Would be 4th in world rankings if had enough events to qualify
Disappointments-- Girls Junior Am, Only so-so in LPGA events other than womens open (She is only 17).. did not have as good an amatuer year as Ryan Moore had in '04.

Michelle Wie- Average LPGA Major finish of 5th in 2005 (second to Annika), Average dollars per tournament (if she were a pro) second to Annika, would be top 12 on money list in 2005 in 1/3 the events, would be ranked 2nd in world rankings (needed two more events to qualify), Has a winning record against every LPGA player this year except Annika..they are 3-3-1
Disappointments- No wins (she is only 15), no PGA cuts (ditto)--

Whether people like it or not there is a big difference between being 15 and being 17 or 18 (Think of varsity teams and how few 15 year olds make them). Michelle DID NOT attend Ledbetter's and Paula Creamer does not and did not have a winning lifetime record in tournamants they both have played (in other words Michelle almost always finishes higher). Michelle also has historically finished higher than Pressel (although Pressel one a head to head a few years ago the girls junior).

I do think winning matters and in that area she fell short of her goals anf Paula and Morgan this year. But with that said..her average level of play has been higher, carrying more expectations, more pressure and most importantly being materially younger.

2005-10-11 @ 15:56

I don't count Japanese tour wins. Their best players play here. Ai Miyazato was a star out there last year and hardly made a blip out here (she is a star to be though and another teen). It is impressive that Creamer could win where she was a prohibitive favorite by world rank (and after 15 time zones over on a course she has never seen) but the quality of play... I never count Tiger's wins in Asia or Goosen's recent win, except when other top players join them. Chasing appearence money and quality wins are not the same.

I also messed up on the finish in the majors this year. Annika averaged an 8th (1,1,23,5) and Michelle Wie a 13th (14,2,23,3)... but good lookin Natalie Gulbis snuck between them with an average finish of 11 (17,5,4,8). Still if a 15 year old boy averaged 13th in the majors with two top 3's the story would be HUGE (remember Justin Rose's finish, How about Matt Kuchar's? and they finished lower in a single major at an older age!

Comment from: Norman [Visitor]
Not to worry about the math, Metoo you got it right in the end.

I think it is pretty clear that Creamer had a poor major year, but hopefully she will improve next year and challenge more.

Wie was much more of a force, hopefully she can keep it up next year.

Annika was great as expected.

Guilbis certainly is consistant, not just in majors, but right across her LPGA events.

Average of 14th is not exactly poor (I think it is the 5th best reult). just not as good as Wie. The both are fabulous players, and Wie perhaps gets more attention than she deserves in comparison...but that is hardly her fault. Writers write the stories, fans read tham and want more. Companies give her the money to associated with her products, we buy them...none of this is deserving of the hate people are throwing onto a 15 year old girl.

That's a good point. I just meant I would have expected her to get more higher finishes.
Paula's finishes were: 19, 3, 19, 15.
Michelle's finishes: 14, 2, 23, 3.
None of Paula's were BAD finishes but I'd just have liked her to have challenged more, given that she had a full season, and had a couple of confidence boosting titles along the way.
Given that Paula had so much extra play than Michelle I would have expected the results to be the opposite way. For Michelle to do better, having played less LPGA tourneys in the lead ups is outstanding for her.

For a player in any sport to be considered truly great they need to have a great opponent. Ali had Frazier, Magic had Bird and so on. Annika took her game to the PGA because like all great champions she wanted to test herself against the best. Note the jump in her driving distance this year vs. Colonial. So here comes Wie, Pressel, and Creamer down the pike. Looks like womens golf maigh be fun to watch in the not too distant future. As anyone who knows anything about sports will tell you performance at the Jr. level is no measure of potential success at the pro level. There are legions of the "next great ones" that no one has ever heard of or ever will. The fact that all three of these young players have proven themselves already at the pro level is a different story.

What should scare the living hell out of everyone on the LPGA tour is these players will only get better as they get older and smarter. As far as players on the LPGA being pissed off I doubt it. Wie's endorsment only signaled that the LPGA might finally get some of the respect it's due and some of the money it has long been looking for. Kind of like Colonial were Vijay should have kept his mouth shut when Annika brought more spectators and full thurs., fri., TV coverage to a non major tour stop.

The other key thing about Wei is she has been taught to set her sights on the top of the sport. Not just the top of the "women's" part of the sport. Good for her and good for sports. Will she be able to win a PGA tour event? Who knows. But trying to get her game in shape to win at that level will only serve to make her a more devastating player in the LPGA. she has already passed the first test showing that she is not afraid to go up against the men. Keep in mind Missing the cut at eh Sony Open by 1 means she pretty much beat HALF the men there. We're talking guys that PASSED Q school. They better get used to it.

As far as Dad goes he'll have to back off at some point. Now that Nike and others have an investment in Michelle they'll insist that she have a good pro caddy and dad butt out. For 10 million BJ will learn to back off.

With $10 million being dangled out there all of us would do the same because even if she never wins a tournament she has made more than most people will ever make in a lifetime. Hasn't everyone realized that in today's world it is more about marketability than playing ability!! To substantiate that argument just one word Anna. There is no doubt she has unbelievable talent but I do not feel she has the mental toughness to be a great champion. When you listen to her talk she sounds more like 12 than 16. With all the comparisons to Tiger Woods go back and look at his interviews at the same stage and it becomes very clear that she is in no way even close to the maturity level that he was. Also pretty obvious that she is not at all close in mental toughness but then again is there anyone in the world Male or Female that is in Golf? Probably not.

I like many am tired of all the hype and of constantly hearing about Michelle Wie. Go win some events!

`Like Bamberger, you musst be a Wie hater too. Like she states, I'll just call a marshall for a ruling". Wow, that will slow things up. Quit looking for her to do things wrong.

it's pretty obvious, that you must have a smaller brain than a pea.

PINK. Baldwin, is that really professional and useful criticism?? Does Paula Creamer have a patent on pink? Who cares what color either of them wear - I'm only interested in their golf games.

Get a life, Chris. Obviously, you need to find a different day job.
