Are there any sure bets in Cancun golf? The spring break paradise can be a golfer’s torment with good courses and duds all disguised under the same high-end greens fees.

Any suggestions? Shockingly, I just might have an opinion or two. Playa Paraiso Golf Club, the new P.B. Dye linked with the Iberostar Resort Complex, is the best course I played in a week there. The latest Jack Nicklaus nine at Moon Palace, the Dunes Course is a visual, shotmaking treat.

Play the Dunes nine with either the Jungle or Lakes nine. It doesn’t really matter which, they’re both equally solid and unspectacular. You probably won’t remember either. Just make sure you get the Dunes as part of your 18.

Playacar Golf Club is a good bet for the chance to see some actual jungle wildlife. Think big exotic lizards, not Cheetahs. This is Cancun.

On the other end of the spectrum, avoid the Cancun Golf Club at Pok Ta Pok. Don’t be fooled by its Robert Trent Jones design status. This is a course that needs a maintenance makeover. The Hilton Cancun Golf Resort is also vastly overpriced for what it provides - a rather ordinary resort track with plenty of worn patches.
