Michelle Wie's 60 Minutes "Interview" lacks legs (and no, not the Paula Creamer kind)
Michelle Wie appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday night. They called it an interview. Which makes James Lipton’s gushing sit-down with runaway comedian Dave Chappelle on Inside the Actors Studio look like a Watergate grilling.
My favorite exchange had to be when reporter Steve Kroft asked breathlessly “You think you look ugly?”
And Wie responded, “Only in the morning.”
The only thing missing was learning what kind of tree the Winless Wonder wanted to be.
For once, I really don’t have a problem with Michelle Wie. She did her usual marketing machine song and dance, stayed within the character created for her with grace.
But what is it with 60 Minutes and its sudden rash of fawning golf “interviews"? A few weeks ago, we had Ed Bradley all but begging Tiger Woods to let him be the godfather of his future kids. Now, it’s Wie love.
Can we leave the sports to people who will actual cover it with some objectivity?
Kroft did get Wie to essentially admit that she’s been a pro all along in everything but name. Shocker.
“I thought it was gonna be like this whole new thing,” Wie said of officially turning pro. “Like oh my God, I feel like a new person. But I don’t. Totally overrated.”
It would be when you’re actually 0 for 33 in professional golf tournaments. It doesn’t feel different, because nothing’s changed. Wie was guaranteed riches and diva treatment all along. She never could win.
For anyone who wants to watch Wie tackle these tough questions, you can find clips here.

I am running out of adjectives to describe your mental condition of you, Baldy.
Baldy said "For once, I really don't have a problem with Michelle Wie. "
Can anybody really believe this?
Oh, as for your remark of her being eseentially 0 for 33 events, you are more likely 0 for 33 years or more.
Good grief, Baldy, when and where your obsession of Michelle will end?
You may thought that you will enjoy high traffic with this Wie-bashing but sooner or later you will drive away all the visiters from this site with your sour, bad, fould-taste remarks on a girl.
I posted that you would write something about Michelle Wie regarding the 60 minutes interview back on Saturday.
Pathetic...
If any other adult male spent this much time fawning over a 16yo girl, it'd be called something between stalking and pedophilia.
Since travelgolf.com puts this blog on, I assume that they condone the hateful, mysogynistic attitudes. I wonder if they think this is some way to allow open and free dialogue? I wonder if they spend this much careful thought on their travel offerings. It sure isn't what I'd look for in a service provider.
Steve Kroft did not ask her
" You think you look ugly ?" with Michelle answering "Only in the morning"
That interview is still on my Tivo and I watched it again to make sure, and that question was definitely not asked on Sunday's telecast.
You just proved you didn't watch it and now you're talking out of your ass...
Is it too much to ask for you to get your facts straight--no wonder you're loser ass is getting sued.
Those Michelle quotes were not in the interview--Baldwin made them up.
You can even check out the transcript from the CBS News website if you don't believe me. I double checked it already from my TiVo and those words he quoted above were definitely not said.
60 minutes is one of the highest rated shows on TV-it shows how dumb Baldwin is if he think he can lie about something millions of people saw.
You think someone that goes after a
16 year old girl with inaccurate facts and such vitriol has integrity?
I hear from some Las Vegas friends--he's even getting sued for defamation.
she has accomplished at 16. She chose a different route.... this is the USA--she's got a lot on the ball. She sure has accomplished a lot more at 16 than 99.9% of the population!
Find something real to bash.
Chill out Hoyt--its called an opinion.
Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean you're paranoid.
By the way why don't you Google "Chris Baldwin" and defamation lawsuit and see what comes up...
And Chris Bladwins `Journalist' stalking of a teenage girl shows how far the media has gone in the loss of morals.
Go get a life, Chris.
And while you are at it, just hope that no journalist ever decides to take the same kind of run at a child of yours.
But nice try there, buddy.
Once again, leave the Wie defenses to the real Wie Warriors.
I'm surprised. But, then again, people can surprise you sometimes.
Those questions you brought up in your blog were NOT included in the Sunday telecast and you implied that they were.
Your quotes from above were exclusives from the CBS website and not on the show Sunday night.
Of course there's no way you would know since you didn't watch the show from Sunday night.
So you lied yet again Baldwin--
How did you see
those questions asked of Michelle Wie Sunday night when those clips from the CBS website weren't available until Tuesday morning?
My TiVo works just fine --Thank you.
The only thing you've "exposed" is your petty obsession.
Come with some facts man. Like Michelle Wie being 0 for 33. Baldwin being 0 for ... oh, that's right my Wie predictions have been all right.
Sorry there. But thanks keeping for the comments rolling.
"Wie's first feature appearance two years ago helped 60 Minutes win the prestigious Gracie Award for Outstanding News Magazine."

Of course Baldwin wouldn't know anything about awards when it comes to journalism. What a joke.
Baldwin should change his photo on this web. Draw two horns, goatee, and hold a three pronged sword.
Alright now, this is beyond pathetic...
You truly need to get a life.
It must be sad that you have made such little contribution to your life and career that you have been reduced to writing ridiculous blogs just so people will read them. Why don't you quit picking on a 16 year old girl, and do something productive with your writing.
Everything you write (not only about Michelle) has been strictly amateurish and without merit.
Did you even go to journalism school? If you did what do your colleagues think about you being a 3rd rate blogger so desperate for attention and validation. I also saw that it is true you are currently being sued for defamation for one of your previous articles -your career is truly sad.
If the latter is the case, Morgan has been a pro since 2005 (0 for 10 or so)and Puala has been a pro for about 2 and a half years (2 for 30 or so).
Think about that?
0 for 33? Ridiculous argument!!!
Where did Paula and Morgan finish at the two events Michelle played in as well this year?
The Wie's have not badgered anyone for an exemption the sponsors have given it to them willingly.
And can't you defend your points by yourself?
Why do we have to "Ask Chris"
Neither Morgan nor Paula has been badgering tour promoters to get sponsors' exemptions on the PGA tour.
-----------------------------------
Neither has Michelle. In fact, several pga tournaments have offered her exemptions, including a few for this year, but she has turned down many. For instance she turned down the John Deere, the year before she entered it. Also, she has been offered some events for this summer, but she can take her pick.
So Alex, please get your facts straight. Michelle Wie does not badger pga tournaments for sponsorship exemptions, in fact they want her and she can pick and choose.
Uh, guys, please pay attention. This blog is not, I repeat, IS NOT about Morgan or Paula. Miss Wie is the subject that Chris has put under scrutiny.
Remember gentlemen, the subject of this blog is Michelle Wie. The relative merits of the play of Morgan Pressel and/or Paula Creamer are irrelevant on this thread.
-------------------------------
Alex, if you believe this then why did you also state the following:
---------------------------------
On the other hand, Morgan has won the US Women's Amateur and made it through the "Q" school, and Paula led the "Q" school and has won two LPGA events and two others worldwide.
---------------------------------
That was you discussing those other two golfers, in the very same thread.
As for Q school, Michelle hasn't been there, and she has performed so well that she won't have to even bother with Q school, she will qualify the automatic way, by winning enough money, just like Tiger Woods did on the pga tour.
alex--
You're the first one here to bring up Paula and Morgan--uh pay attention....
Michelle tied for 1st in greens in regulation (GIR) at the Fields Open and was the leader in GIR at the Kraft. So how did anyone beat her?
Her are the stats comparing Karrie (the winner) to Michelle:
GIR:
Michelle was 1st
Karrie was tied for 9th
Putts Per Round:
Karrie was tied for 5th with an average of 28.25 PPR.
Michelle was tied for 65th place with an average of 31.75 PPR.
Michelle gave up three and a half strokes per round to Karrie on the greens. Michelle can't give up fourteen strokes per match and expect to win.
These are young ladies who deserve some respect for their individual accomplishements in the world of golf.
What's bothering you? The fact that Wie lost her chance to win? Or the fact that she didn't get punished for not winning?
Many people who posted on this blog don't care whether Wie is 0 for 32 or not, except for Chris and Wie haters.
Many people on this blog are not bothered by the fact that Wie is getting $10 million a year without winning, except for Chris and Wie haters.
In other word, many people on this blog are pointing out that Chris' obsessions with Wie are too much.
Chris is right again. Bubbles is the embodiment of style over substance."
I often wonder how golf experts are created from a group of Slugs that would not make the cut at an LPGA event. They can talk a good game but that is where their golf expertise ends. Kind of like golf writers.
Are you for real ??
I think the angry one here is the person that keeps putting the same person down every chance he can get for no reason at all.
Check out your posts--you sound a lot angrier than most people in this blog.
Why don't you and Baldwin, Alex and the other Wie haters get some balls and direct your insecurities at something else?
BTW it's funny that losers [Baldy this is you] who has never won anything of import when he was 16 could make such a stupid and hypocritical statement like this about a nice girl.
We all know that you are profiting by attacking a teenager--this is the number one article in Google search news section and this jerk is being paid by Google. Only losers in the most pathetic sense would week-by-week profit from Wie-bashing.
Good luck in your life, you'll need it.
We live in a capitalist society--hello??? Why don't you Alex and Baldy just go live in a communist country if you are just so stuck up on this whole marketing thing.
Most Americans do not think it's such a bad thing to market a talented teenager who is making a positive contribution to not only women's golf but is also a great role model for kids. There are so many people who do absolutely nothing for society but are filthy rich.
I'm glad you get my point loud and clear Alex because people like you just don't seem to get this simple idea through your thick skull--she is 16 and she will be playing a lot more golf in the years to come to prove herself. The intelligent thing to do would be to wait a few more years before jumping to conclusions, something that you must do a lot in your life.
BTW, you are utterly insane if you think she has done nothing.
She isn't a full-time student at high school - she's never there. I even remember a guy from Hawaii post on this blog who happened to attend the same high school as Michelle, and he actually stated that it is a rare sight to see Michelle in school.
Michelle has already failed her SATs, AND she hasn't won anything yet. The only thing that is looking good for her at the moment is her bank balance.
David-
You and Baldwin must be relying on the same sources--
Yes Michelle did bad on her SAT which she admitted to--but she also said she didn't study for it at all-she took it without any reviewing. How do you know she failed? She may not have gotten the score she wanted but that doesn't mean she failed.
What are you talking about that she is failing school? Every feature that has been done on her has intimated that she is an A student at her high school.
You and Baldwin act like those catty Hilton sisters...
She is a Junior and can take the test again if needed in her Senior year to improve her score.
It just hit me reading your article that you seem to be watching and reading anything and everything about Michelle Wie. I didn't even know that she was appearing in the 60 Minutes. It takes a great devotion to do that.
Have you ever wondered youself why you spend so much time and energy discussing her ? Hatred is a twin whose other sibling is love. Admit it Chris, you like her.
Bo
By the way, an A student studies for exams. Stop making excuses for Michelle; she got lazy, didn't study, and cocked up her exams.
Alex and David sound like those ranting paranoid schizo's walking around the streets of any major city...
Alex-- "Expose Michelle Wie" ??
Is she hiding something about herself we don't know about? Something only you and your fellow pod people know ?
Expose her of what ??--she's been upfront with everything she's wanted to do--and its not her fault insecure cowards like you have a problem with her goals.
David - -how do you know she cocked up her exams ? You don't even know what an SAT is, you've never been at her school and you're making crazy unfounded declarations about her grades. She's an A-student and making millions-get some self-esteem and live with it.
You make even less sense than Alex and that is really hard to do.
Hell, I don't know how the SAT works. I'm British. But a test that is impossible to fail just seems pretty pointless to me.
By the way, an A student studies for exams. Stop making excuses for Michelle; she got lazy, didn't study, and cocked up her exams."
A prime example of ignorant "Wie Haters" everywhere. They tend to invent controversy from their lack of understanding of anything including the game of golf.
Most of these so called golf experts couldn't pull together a sub-par round from the Junior tees with the wind at their back all day long.
Hey Alex I see your Worldwide recruiting efforts have paid off with your latest member of the Wie Haters from the UK.
God Save the Queen.
EXAMPLE. A girl is 3/8 of the way through a tunnel when she hears a train coming. She could run back and reach the start of the tunnel when the train does, or run forward and reach the end when the train does. If the train goes 60mph how fast does the girl run? A MATH NATURAL CAN DO THIS PROBLEM MENTALLY.
She runs 3/8 of the tunnel to get to the start when the train does, or she runs 3/8 of the tunnel to get
3/8 + 3/8 = 3/4 of the way through when the train reaches the start. In the latter case she runs trhough the remaining 1/4 of the tunnel in the time it takes the train to go through the entire tunnel so she runs
1/4 of 60mph = 15mph.
People who are able to think like this do much better on the SAT than people who have not yet learned to think in this way. Unfortunately we rarely teach people to think about math in this fashion at least in the US. Perhaps our UK friends could tell us if this type of reasoning is common in England.
I, for one, would certainly advise Marko to take your comments as anything but constructive.
Perhaps Alex should use grammar check. One does not usually start a sentence with a proper noun that is uncapitalized, only to follow it with a capitalized "Don't".
"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers". - (Act IV, Scene II).
"Small things make base men proud". - (Act IV, Scene I).
At least there is one Limey I can understand and agree with.
Shame on me once again, I thought this was a golf Blog and never realized I signed up for online classes.
One-Putt, I've got a question for you. Now that Jim C has divulged the fact that Michelle's math skills are as suspect as her putting, will you reconsider your opinion that Miss Wie will someday earn a Master's degree in Business Administration? Just asking."
Only if you accept the fact I said, "perhaps later".
I agree completely with you on one point Alex, Michelle must do her homework on putting if she hopes to graduate to the next level.
What a surprise that Bill Clinton even cheated on his golf score, when he played Miss Wie!
Well, at least he didn't grope her.
I thought you, being of the legal profession, would most certainly have addressed the key issues of the question:
Why was a young girl running inside a tunnel?
Did the publisher of the test footnote the question with a warning that this was a hazardous activity that the test taker should not personally attempt?
Is there not grounds for a lucrative class-action suit here?
Do I know anyone whose child might have been needlessly endangered by this patently dangerous and irresponsible question?
You sit in your pearly little tower and set everyone up with your derogatory and inflamatory prose and then whip the responders for reacting exactly as you hoped they would.
Having said that, I am still of the firm opinion that you an Chris Baldwin are idiots. Very glib idiots, but idiots all the same.
Quite frankly I don't give a darn whether Ms. Wie ever wins, she is an entertaining young golfer.
Now, you and Chris seem to have a problem with the hype. Well, let Baldwin stop publshing this sort of incendiary nonsense and half the hype would vanish. Then you could go the rest of the route and take Nike, Sony, et al. to task for their sponsorship of Ms.Wie. I'm sure that they would take you very seriosly.
Next, why not take your alleged legal talents and find a way to stop BJ Wie from exploiting his daughter. That is after all one of the favourite battle cries of the Wie Bashers, right?
So she is a Pro. And you sit there in your rarified air and tell us that because she is a pro, that being 16 years old and a pro suddenly makes her incapable of 16 year old mistakes and 16 year old mannerisms?
Really, Alex, take a good look around you. I mean take a responsible look around you and then give us page ad verse of all the totally un-teenage like 16 year olds you see, no matter if they are "pro or not.
As I said before, I don't care whether she wins or not, what I really object to in all this BS that Baldwin spews forth, is the totally irrisponsible and unfair misinformation he keeps writing in these blogs.
I said it before and I'll say it again, Baldwin would really blow his cool if any papparazi style reporter set up a blog such as this and started a word war on one of his children. I am also sure that you would be very quick to find way to stop anyone from making the same sort of blog about one of your kids, Alex.
Just stop being such a blathering dupe in Baldwins war of words against MW. Go fight the really perpetrators of the hype machine. Go talk to Omega and Nike and Sony. I can just imagine the reception you'd get.
Hey Guys we are blogging here and everyone says what is on their mind. What good does it do to use venom?
Again you assume. As a lawyer??? you should know better.
And what were here SAT scores? They have not been published to my knowledge, so how do you know what they are? She said she didn't do well.
Her opinion.

Hey putt4par, haven't you noticed any of the humor in my recenr post? Even the smiley faces?
Humor? Really? ok, if you say so.

Hey Guys we are blogging here and everyone says what is on their mind. What good does it do to use venom?
Yeah, Alex loves the venom and he does love to bait people with it.
I really shouldn't respond but he can be such and ass... Part of his assume mode I suspect.
And if you really want to talk venom, then go back and read Chris Baldwins complete works in these blogs. Or Alex' responses although I suspect he nay just be a Chris Baldwin clone.
Actually Michelle Wie is Asian and not Oriental--she's not a rug --and not all Asian people are good at math.
Alex--you keep on digging a deeper hole for yourself there. Everyone already thinks you're an emasculated idiot but a racist as well ?
Wow-you're a winner- your family must be so proud.
Anyone think its odd that a self-proclaimed golf aficionado like Alex only replies to blogs by Chris Baldwin...
kind of makes you think they're the same person.
Alex is probably thinking how he's going to defend himself but of course he has to
"Ask Chris" first....
You're the clueless one--you don't even know that you don't call people Oriental.
Do you even know any Asian people?
Why don't you ask them if they like being called "Oriental"
Since you're so busy holed up in your trailer waiting for the rest of the pod people to contact you -I doubt you will get an opportunity to ask.
You've already shown your ignorance but its kind of funny the way you defend your lack of knowledge. You're a human Jerry Springer show.
I believe I only called you clueless once but its not my fault you have an IQ of 30.
Don't even try to debate me son, because you will get owned each time.
which all proves that the Chris is a genius who writes reviews for shows he's not seen.
not sure which makes you the more relevant blogger... being deceptive and making up a quote or being sloppy and lazy and confusing a TV broadcast with something on the internet
either way. I salute you! you are an important guy thx google
