Sports Clips in Houston much better as a concept than an actual haircut

Sometimes you need a haircut when you’re on a golf trip. If you’re a guy this usually means a quick stop into the first place that looks promising and fast.

This is how I found myself in a Sports Clips in the Houston area. Sports Clips is a relatively new franchise that boasts about its sports fan haven environment. With the emphasis on boasts.

You’re supposed to be able to show up and watch whatever sporting event you want while getting a clip. Hopefully from a semi cute woman. Hey, we’re guys. Who wants to be away from ESPN for a whole 15 minutes?

The Sports Clip I went to didn’t come close to delivering on the sports part. Oh, there were small TVs over each booth chair and a cutesy locker room theme. Because guys are apparently big on cute. But on this early evening weekend, with tons of sports going on, every TV in the joint was turned to figure skating.

And none of the hair cut girls seemed to have any clue about how to change the channel.

Ah yes, Sports Clips. A man’s man’s place where the design is heavy on the cute factor and the TVs are locked on ice skating sequins.

Who even knew it was possible to miss Fantastic Sam’s? At least, they don’t build up any expectations there.
