Cedric The Entertainer funnier entertaining American Century Championship celebs than on The Tonight Show
Saturday July 15, 2006 | 01:32:35 340 words, 1729 views
Cedric The Entertainer appeared on The Tonight Show the night after he put on a private comedy show for the celebrity golfers and most favored sponsor guests of the American Century Championship. Guess which performance he was funnier in? And it wasn’t even close. If you want to see Cedric The Entertainer see him in Lake Tahoe when he’s cutting up in front of some of his celeb buds and a host of well-heeled fat cats. Ced hilariously read the tone of the Harrah’s theater when he came out in his all white suit, complete with his trademark straw hat, and started bumping to the music. “You might as well get up now!” he shouted, instantly causing a host of 50-year-old golfers who wear very starched collars to the office to shoot panicked looks at each other. “Come on black people, show them how!” Cedric continued. Silence. “Nah, I’m just kidding. I know we have a lot of white people in the audience. (Peering out into the theater). “A very white audience.” From there, Cedric proceeded to leave that crowd roaring with a run of mostly cutting edge topical comedy. I must admit I never thought Cedric The Entertainer was very funny before. There’s no way you could just based on his mostly bland cookie cutter Hollywood flicks (besides perhaps Kings of Comedy). This wasn’t the inside celebrity event I was looking forward to most. Even if I ended up sitting right amongst former Phoenix Suns sharpshooter Dan Majerle and his boys and few seats down the row from Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. But Ced proved me wrong. And yes, we’re tight enough for me to call him Ced. (OK, not to his face, but why get caught up in technicalities?) Would you rather watch Cedric The Entertainer in a cozy theater in Lake Tahoe or George Wallace in a bigger place in Las Vegas? It’s not even close. And let’s not even get started on Carrot Top. Sometimes the mini (summer cool) Vegas on the lake can surprise you. Comments:

Ced's got an HBO special premiering tonight .... and replayed a gazillion times over the following few weeks. Looking forward to it.
I'm glad that Baldwin and Shanks are tight enough with the mound of mirth to call him "Ced." I found his Bud Light commercials to be the funniest stuff in the world. Cedric's physical movements, his facial expressions, and the noises between the words are the basis for his comedy; the lyrics add to the package.
