Soulshine Bagel your breakfast or snack place in Lake Placid

There’s an alarmingly lack of breakfast talk on this big blog board. I excuse myself because I’m usually stumbling in about the time most folks are considering breakfast. But National Golf Editor Tim McDonald is one of those rise-at-4 a.m. farmer types who has time for three breakfasts before most sane people have even considered food. The lovely Jennifer Mario no doubt has a great exotic Brazilian omelet recipe she learned from Dukie Coach K. And surely, the hip BTuck has a story about a Belgian Waffle or two from his European travels. But no … Do you know how many times golfers ask for a good breakfast recommendation too? For Lake Placid, New York, I’ll fill the void. The “Miracle On Ice” 1980s Olympic land has my all-time favorite breakfast place. OK, it’s my only breakfast place. Spend any time in a town like Lake Placid and you’ll get into an easy routine. Mine includes a stop at Soulshine Bagel, a little narrow shop right in the heart of downtown (128 Main Street) that serves up great fresh bagels and made-to-order fruit smoothies in which you watch the actual fruit being smushed in the blender (no Jamba Juice crap here). Soulshine even makes it’s own cream cheese for the bagels. Spend a week here and you can try a different flavor every day. Though I must warn that cinnamon cream cheese sounds better in theory than it actually tastes. The sitting’s very minimal at Soulshine - there’s no room in this room - but that only makes you root for the place more. Soulshine is owned by a woman who looks like she just graduated from college and it already carries great word of mouth. Plus, how can you not love a place called Soulshine? Soulshine, makes me think of Jennifer Mario.

Amsterdam has the best breakfast food on the planet. After two days I was hooked on their thick waffles with heated up chocolate sauce and topped with powdered sugar. There's also a bunch of rock-candy like sugar crystals embedded in the batter - when you bite into one you feel like you've just found the toy in your Cracker Jacks. Stoners truly know how to make and appreciate great junk food.
In Prague, it's sausage, sausage, sausage. But the bananas here are oddly tasty and I seldom get a bad one like back home...It's also common to see bars open at 8 a.m. and people drinking tall mugs of Pilsner Urquell. To be honest, I can't show up to the office after 10 a.m. without seeing the Boss sauced off his rocker. Leave a comment: |
