Tucson's JW Marriott Starr Pass makes tequila classy and near "historical" with toast

I’ve never been a big hard liquor guy. I leave that to WorldGolf.com’s Brandon Tucker who’s still so excited whenever he gets served (fake IDs are a wonderful thing) that he’ll drink motor oil. Or to Tim McDonald who’s taken to making recreational drug use confessions a la Barack Obama. (Maybe McDonald’s planning a run for president of the Octogenarians Society of America).

If you’re golfing in Tucson though, there’s one hard liquor experience you need to partake in. Every night at 5:30 in the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort’s big outdoor patio bar, there is a free tequila toast.

Vanish all your thoughts of pounding tequila shots out of barely washed glasses on that night out with the buddies that got away from you. This is a high-class tequila toast. It includes a story told by the server leading the toast.

Basically it’s about a guy who out drunk his conniving future father-in-law in a tequila marathon to win the hand of the woman he loved. It sounds much better - and near “historical” - in the Old West moment though.

Then, everyone in the bar downs their tequila.

This is good tequila too. And the kind changes every night. JW Marriott Starr Pass has had up to 150 different varieties of tequila.

Did I mention it’s free? It also might just change your view of at least one liquor.

“I’ve had guys come up to me and say they hated tequila, until they tried our toast,” Starr Pass general manager John Adams said. “It’s a little different experience than downing shots in a college bar.”

Sounds good, but how tough are they on carding...?
