As injured as Michelle Wie, Annika Sorenstam makes a run at the LPGA Championship

HAVRE DE GRACE (June 8, 2007) - While the golf press corps at the LPGA Championship sits in the press room writing Michelle Wie stories and the rest of Western Civilization cries with Paris Hilton, Annika Sorenstam is making a run at Bulle Rock.

Sorenstam shot a 3 under 33 on the front nine of her second round, moving 5 under for the tournament where she’s not supposed to have a chance. She went to the turn off a tough birdie putt on 18 (her ninth hole) that drew arguably the loudest cheer of the day from the gallery. And Annika wasn’t any stoic Swede either. She went into a big fist pump move that Randy Moss almost could have appreciated.

Having a chance in this tournament clearly means a lot to Sorenstam. If she could somehow win this major, in only her second tournament returned from neck and back injures, it might be her greatest feat in golf. And that’s working off a long list.

Sorenstam is clearly as hurt as Wie was, probably even more. Yet she’s still dredging up some of the old magic. There’s a reason she’s Annika.

Annika's isn't that bad in the sense that she stopped playing golf for a very short period of time. Then she was back to chipping and putting, not necessarily a bad thing for her to have spent a few weeks exclusively working on her short game.

When she came back on course, sure she couldn't hit it quite as far as she could before, but she really wasn't out of competitive mode. Her last lpga tournament hadn't been that long ago. It is likely that she has had bigger vacations from competitive golf over the Christmas period than she had in her injury layoff, so she was competitively zoned in and ready to go. All that extra experience and course management she would have also have helped her.

putt4par,

Where have you been you old Canuck bozo?

I'm glad that Bubbles' latest come-from-behind victory has made you happy. Maybe now you won't be such a grouchy curmudgeon.

Before you break out the bubbly, you should be advised to execise caution.

Yesterday afternoon, Carol Bivens was seen driving up in a golfcart to the sixteenth green to have an urgent conversation with Karen Davies. Spectators say that Greg Nared was with her along with two others of Asian origin.

The Maryland State Police and the FBI have initiated an investigation.

putt4par,

Is that the best you can do?

Come on, man, get with it!

Bubbles is making history, if that's what you want to call it.

As a Wie warrior of the first magnitude, you should want to be part of it.

Only 5 comments so far. See? This is the reason why Baldy kept writing negative stuff about Michelle Wie. Blog was filled wiht post after after when Baldwin wrote his usual BS bashing on Michelle Wie. And now he wrote one subjective blog about her and comments dries up the Sahara.

He can't make his living unless he write up BS. Baldwin readers can only take BS from hm.
