An iPhone surely soothes the wound of Michelle Wie's latest embarrassing withdrawal from U.S. Women's Open

Win a free golf book!

People have their priorities so out of whack. Sure Michelle Wie withdrew for the second time in three tournaments at the U.S. Women’s Open today. Sure somewhere near a Hooters, John Daly is admiring this 17-year-old’s ability to come up with stories on why she has to leave events early. (And Wie hasn’t even had to pull the knife card yet!) Sure Wie’s personal wrist massage therapist probably just landed herself a lifetime contract.

But does any of this really matter in the big scheme of it all?

Not when you consider this probable truth: Michelle Wie has an iPhone and you don’t. It’s a near certainty that the Winless Wonder will be able to soothe her wounds (both of the psyche and of the possibly acted) with the latest technological wonder. Sure John Street, the mayor of Philadelphia and even Spike Lee had to wait in line themselves for the latest in super marketing hype (though whether Spike actually waited or just showed up in front is in dispute).

But I’m betting that the Winless Wonder has more pull than all those fools. Let’s face it. She’s Michelle Wie and you’re not. What’s golf anyways? Just a game. Wie runs a much larger game.

This is why I admire other people who have their priorities straight. People like the lovely Jennifer Mario who choses to write about the kids rather than the Wie. Why muddle people’s minds with some unpleasant truths? And who doesn’t love kids?

Besides, I’m with Mario on this one. Hey, Michelle might have an extra iPhone or two lying around. The withdrawal queen has pull. And you don’t.

Right about now is when she should hang
it up til next year, find a new coach and
dump the entourage of bloodsuckers.

Definitley get rid of that leadpipe swing annihilator. As One-Putt says, Gilchrist is available and she did alright with him before.

Maybe send her folks back to Hawaii (or an extended cruise) and just have fun for a while

Hey Putt4par,

When did you start speaking in English again? Your earlier posts were so impressive.

LR

P.S. The correct answer was "E".

Great article by Ron Sirak Executive Editor of Golf World end with this....

While Michelle may be a special talent, the best thing B.J. and Bo can do at this point is something millions of parents do at the end of every summer. They need to send Michelle off to college, tell her to study hard and let her have the fun that is the byproduct of the university experience. It's time to put away the clubs, crack the books and laugh with friends. Enough of the golf, for now. It's time to let Michelle Wie have a life.

Ron Sirak is the executive editor of Golf World magazine.

How long will it be before the next chapter of Perils of Wie? Too bad they can’t just drag her off the course and shoot her like a thoroughbred with a broken leg. But seriously, I think she has been upstaged by her own hype and is suffering from a bad case of performance anxiety. I expect to see her on a Futurerama soon because her excuses are hilarious.

I did learn one thing from the prodigy this week. When I've shot all those 82s, I was actually very close to carding a 69!

An iPhone? I doubt it. She's sponsored by Sony, not Apple.

A triumph of topical, keyword-loaded headlines Chris. Bravo.
