O.J. Simpson's Las Vegas robbery defense: I hang out with golfers, who can golfers scare

If you think O.J. Simpson pulled off the ultimate legal wrangling move with the Johnnie Cochran stylized “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit” straining to put on the gloves show more than a decade ago, you’re not giving the Juice enough credit. It appears O.J. has come up with another stroke of legal “brilliance” - and this time without any help from Cochran.

In his most extensive interview since a sports memorabilia dealer accused Simpson and his posse (only O.J. could still have a posse at age 60) of robbing him at gunpoint, or at least yanking stuff from him in a scary, scary manner, O.J. invoked the hanging with golfers defense. Basically it goes like this: Hey, I was with golfers and who ever feels threatened by golfers. They’re freaking golfers!

“They’re not gangsters – not that I know of, anyway,” Simpson told the Los Angeles Times Saturday when asked about the guys who went with him to the memorabilia dealer’s Palace Station hotel room. “I don’t hang out with gangsters. I hang out with golfers.”

Really, what more does the Las Vegas police need? Case closed. No need to bring up any charges or further bother TMZ.

O.J. told you hangs with golfers. Which as O.J. clearly knows makes most Americans picture a bunch of dweeby guys in polo shirts who couldn’t fight their way out of a Cheesecake Factory let alone a back alley. I must admit I’ve never felt threatened on a Las Vegas golf course either.

Yes, O.J.’s done it again. Could there be a more airtight defense than saying you were with golfers? A golfer’s version of an armed robbery is getting away with telling the wife that there was crazy traffic and slipping in an unapproved nine.

You have to love how Simpson will not let a simple armed robbery allegation disturb his Las Vegas golf vacation one bit either. With Simpson hanging out at The Palms, it’s a safe bet that he’s tried to play high-dollar Strip-side courses Wynn Las Vegas and Bali Hai too.

What? You expect O.J. to start caring about things now?
