Raven at Verrado a unique Thanksgiving golf option in greater Phoenix-Scottsdale

Some people like to gorge on golf along with that turkey on Thanksgiving. If you find yourself in the Phoenix-Scottsdale resort corridor, one of the most enjoyable ways to do is to drive out to Raven Golf Club at Verrado.

This golf course is a little off the beaten path in Buckeye (almost an hour’s drive from Old Town Scottsdale) and because of this they do things a little differently.

This Thanksgiving, that means a 9 a.m. shotgun start, which adds a little sense of community to the whole Thanksgiving golf thing with everyone warming up on the driving range at the same time, hanging out in the clubhouse sharing stories on what brought them out. Your greens fee also includes two meals (in this case breakfast and some late Thanksgiving lunch/early Thanksgiving dinner - maybe a warmup to even more turkey later).

It sounds like a gimmick, but Raven at Verrado is anything but a gimmick course.

Play it once and it’s bound to become one of your favorites in this Phoenix-Scottsdale land of more than 200 courses. It’s been called a mini Troon North, but I actually think that’s almost underselling it. This is a very unique course in its own right, providing the kind of desert looks you can rarely get anymore in Scottsdale’s often cramped condo quarters.

And this scenery can bite - in the scorecard.
