Regular readers of TravelGolf.com already know about Roger Clemens’ love of golf. Not to mention actor Matthew McConaughey’s giant man crush on Clemens.

But it turns out I should have been following The Rocket around off the course too during the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. That’s where the New York Daily News reports that Clemens first met Paulette Dean Daly, one of John Daly’s ex-wives, and started a relationship with her.

And people don’t think these celebrity golf tournaments are relevant anymore?

The New York Daily News - whose new slogan needs to be “a new Roger Clemens’ extra-marital affair revealed every day” - reports that several sources told them that The Rocket went as far as flying in Miss Ex Daly to Anaheim to watch him pitch against the Angels during his Yankee days.

As bombshells go, this isn’t a great one - except for the fact that John Daly’s involved. After the Daily News’ story with sources alleging that Clemens conducted a long-running affair with a country music singer who he first met when she was 15 broke the day before, Paulette Dean Daly looks sort of unremarkable by comparison.

If you don’t think that 90 percent of pro athletes, movie stars and these days big-time politicians are sleeping around on their wives, you’re probably still expecting a visit from the tooth fairy.

Long before steroids or affair allegations, I wrote that Roger Clemens was a complete phony. You could see that just in the way he always reached for the biggest dollar while spewing totally bunk about his love for Yankee pinstripes or Houston or Canadian baseball or whatever suited his purpose at the moment.

Clemens had a ton of angry defenders back then. These days they are mostly gone, having bolted as quick as his fastball used to be.

Though Miss Ex Daly still sounds pretty down with The Rocket.

“Yeah, I’ve known Roger quite a while and we are friends,” Paulette Dean Daly told the New York Daily News.

John Daly would probably comment. But he’s been too busy hitting golf shots without his shirt on in Branson, Missouri.

Still think Roger Clemens is the frightening one?
