So much for Lorena Ochoa being the women's Tiger Woods, she's done at the U.S. Women's Open

EDINA, Minn. - It’s 12:09 p.m. here on a rain-delayed Saturday at the U.S. Women’s Open and Lorena Ochoa is done as a contender. The No. 1 ranked player in women’s golf - the player with two career major wins who’s been ridiculously compared to Tiger Woods when she hasn’t even earned the right to be compared to Annika Sorenstam yet - just played herself out of another major.

Starting on her third round on the 10th hole, Ochoa went bogey, double bogey, bogey on 11, 12 and 13, putting her at 5-over for the Open, a whopping 11 shots out of the lead and out of it. Even the birdie Ochoa just recorded on the par 3 14th is not going to save this sinking star.

After finishing her second round at 1-over, Ochoa talked of changing her approach. “I think I need to be more aggressive,” she said.

That didn’t backfire as much as Ochoa didn’t execute. After playing much too cautiously on a U.S. Women’s Open course that’s been set up for birdies - one with five par 5s that Ochoa, the longest driver on the LPGA Tour was supposed to feast on, but instead has found only famine - Ochoa needed to start firing at pins.

She couldn’t pull it off though.

Now might be the time to call Ochoa on her performance in the majors too. She’s a star, but she does not deserve any of this legend talk until she collects more big hardware. Sorenstam has 10 majors on her resume. Are you really so sure that Ochoa’s ever going to come close to challenging that mark?

Or, she's going through swing changes, just like Tiger did during his slump...or, numerous other explanations that parallel Tiger's career...or, just keep jumping the gun, blogman.

OMG Chris - she has lost two close family members in the last month - cut her a little slack this week - understandably she might be a little distracted. She is a great player...let's see, this year she has 11 starts, 6 wins and 10 top-10's. Already surpassed 2MM in earnings this year. You need to STFU.

Lorena is going thru a difficult time this week due to the death of her grandfather and uncle, you should be more informed about the people you going to criticize, I think she is doing better that expected due to her circumstances. I’m sure she would do better as she recovers from her emotional lost.

I think you should really be more informated about what you're going to write before you do it. We all know that Lorena hasn't done what Annika has, but she's in the process to. If you want to compare, you should know that Lorena has done so much more than Annika in her six first seasons did. Also, two members of her family died a few weeks ago, do you remember how Tiger played after his father's dead? I do, it was on the US Open 2006 where he couldn't even make the cut, what it's totally understandable. She is the best female golfer all over the world and a bad tournament is not gonna take that from her. I'm really looking fordward about what you're going to write about her at the end of the season.

It's pretty unfair for anyone to be compared to Tiger; nobody has come close to living up to the expectations when compared to Tiger. Lorena has many contemporaries to surpass first before being compared to Tiger. However, failing to live up to the comparison isn’t a mark against Lorena; it’s a mark against the idiots making the comparison.
