Greg Norman's ex gets $103 million, Christie Brinkley's ex gets $2.1 million: More proof it's better to be a woman than a man in divorce?

Greg Norman is a former top athlete turned mega tycoon who is worth the kind of money only Tiger Woods can imagine. Christie Brinkley is a former SI swimsuit model turned budding real estate player who has the type of money only the Olsen twins can relate with.

Both Norman and Brinkley just went through contentious bitter divorce cases.

Norman ended up owing his ex-wife $103 million. Brinkley’s ex settled for $2.1 million.

Look at that and you have to realize that it’s still much better to be a woman than a man in a divorce case these days no matter how much money your spouse makes.

Sure, there are some extenuating circumstances. Brinkley’s ex-husband Peter Cook came across as a complete weaselly lout, having an affair with an 18-year-old and apparently going a little extreme with his Internet porn love. And Norman was no saint himself during his Chris Evert romance - though as I’ve noted before, you have to give the guy credit for staying in his own age bracket rather than just jetting around the globe with a bevy of 20-year-old “personal assistants.”

Still, a $101 million dollar difference?

As much of a jerk as Cook is, he apparently didn’t do anything illegal. (Though if you are a 50-year-old married dude who’s chasing 18-year-olds it’s probably best to decide against dating the one you met in a toy store, just doesn’t play well). By Brinkley’s own admission, Cook also gave her real estate advice that netted her some nice financial scores.

When you look at the chump change Cook was left with (much of which will only cover his own legal bills according to reports) and the fortune that Norman gave up, you’d have to assume the golf great got a little screwed because he’s not a woman. Not that it’s going to affect his life one bit. The Shark prints money.

And it’s tough to argue too hard against the unfairness of the current system when you consider all the women who were beheaded by kings in prior centuries when the divorce laws were really silted one way.

Still, if Norman looks at Brinkley’s modest bill, he could see a legitimate beef. Brinkley who’s been divorced four times now does have a longer history of failed marriages than Norman.

On the bright side, this should all make Jessica Simpson feel good about the idea of marrying Dallas Cowboys choking dunce, golf poser quarterback Tony Romo though. Since Simpson has more money than Romo now, will always have more money than Romo - and more importantly has already done much more with her career than Romo will ever do with his.

Chris - what in the world??? Why aren't there 800+ rabid Taylor Hicks-esque comments from the Arlington/Irving/Dallas Redneck fans??? That last paragraph should have spooled them up to the stratosphere! ;)

How deep is that well? Chris, you're in luck...since no one can determine precisely your gender, whatever you divorce won't matter. You'll have a decent shot at cleaning up, if you take your face away from the mirror long enough to weep in front of the judge. In fact, I see your clandestine feelings for Tony Romo playing out very well in a triangulo de amor with TR and JS.

Chris,

It is amazing how many days in a row our bent on your fag ways. It is obvious to everyone your both Stupid and retarded for continuing to include a totally unrelated topic in your golf articles about an NFL player. Grow up or shut up!

Chris,

Honest question. This is a golf site. Why do you find it entertaining to bash some NFL dude who is a pretty good scratch golfer by the way. This just makes you look stupid when you say these kinds of things.

Can you stick with Golf subjects please?
