BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. - This PGA Championship is no Super Bowl. But it’s seen its share of Super Bowl week wacky questions from the media, many who mostly seem to be annoyed they are not at the Olympics. There was the TV reporter earnestly asking Ben Curtis if he drew inspiration from the Detroit Lions. As if the guy didn’t realize that Curtis gets to paid to look like a fool.

Then, moments ago, Sergio Garcia - who has a great chance to win his first major, standing just three shots back of Curtis and playing in one of the final two groups, which is essential in these days of almost ridiculously hard major setups - received a query that topped them all.

“What do you bench press?” Garcia got asked in all seriousness.

To his credit, Garcia treated the question for what it was worth.

“Six hundred and fifty pounds,” he shot back, grinning. “No sorry, 650 kilos.”

Hello? Sergio Garcia is a professional golfer. A pretty short and slight one at that. He’s not exactly Randy Couture. The only weight that Sergio needs to fret over is the one on his mind as he goes down the stretch with the trophy right there.
