PARAMUS, N.J. - If you’ve spent any time in the greater New York metro market, you know that Northern New Jersey is largely New York Giants country. In these parts, you’ll get 10 lifelong Giants fans for every one New York Jets rebel.
Yet Ben Curtis - who for once had a choice in what he’d wear in a golf tournament with this being a two-team NFL market - showed up in all Jets green for the first round of the Barclays, the first tournament in the second FedEx Cup. Maybe Curtis got a little carried away with the Brett Favre hype (hey, you can make a whole career out of doing that at ESPN!)
Still, the old magic of No. 4 wasn’t exactly there for Curtis at Ridgewood Country Club. Then again, who knows if it’s still there for Favre anymore either?
But there Curtis was posting an even par 71 that puts him nine shots back of runaway first round leader Hunter Mahan. And has him hearing plenty from Giants fans.
When you have an NFL gear endorsement contract, you’d hope you would put a little research into your team selections. First, the Detroit Lions blunder (actually thinking that people in Detroit like the Lions). Now this.
That’s Curtis. And people used to think Eli Manning was dorky?

It just isn't Favre's right arm, which belongs to the Jets now. -

As we know, Hunter's nine-shot leads over anyone have never held up, so that's no biggie. Since the Jets also play in the Meadowlands, no harm no foul. #4's green jerseys exploded on the internet for top sales when the acquisition was announced. I think the same happened with Curtis' green-and-white golfing apparel last Thursday. Who else was he going to wear on day one? My thinking is, the Thursday uni is the one you least favor. Go Bills on Sunday.
