Any activity or sport that can be engaged in by persons over forty or even fifty years of age, and on occasion can produce a winner by that forty or fifty year old over the twenty and thirty somethings is definitely not athletics.

Golf does not require the speed, endurance , or agility of sports like Boxing, Wrestling(the legitimate kind) or Track and Field

The athlete of the year should be nobody other than Jeremy Wariner, the greatest 400 meter runner since Michael Johnson. He is on target to surpass even the peerless Johnson.

For those who have no knowledge of Jeremy, I suggest that you read about him and his fabulous career a World and Olympic champion. He is an American, by the way.

Well said Chris--if Tiger were Swiss (or any nationality other than American) there is no way he would have even been considered for this "award."

Remember that pretty much Tiger alone qualifies as an athlete in the extended sense of the word. He is the most fit on tour. Maybe Goosen, Els and Singh get a vote. The other guys are practitioners of a lost art, but are not fit enough to be considered true athletes.

Hey Chris, There is an old saying that goes "opinions
are like so and so, everyone has one". One would assume
that since you write a blog, that somehow you would
know what the hell you were talking about.....
well there goes that theory.

Yes,Roger Federer is a wonderful athlete, with some of the same qualities as Tiger, but for this year Tiger is the
athlete of the year. So why don't you blog about something that is debateable.
