Another thing - Sergio was in the Okanagan 3 or 4 years ago for the Canadian Skins game - so what if he took out a different waitress each night as a young bachelor? As far as I know he's been dating Morgan Norman for nearly a year now - but he isn't one to talk about his private life. Why shouldn't he buy 2 houses? No doubt a good investment and he probably doesn't stay in either one. As for being the worst competitor - what other player under 30 has 6 wins in the States and 6 in Europe and 16 worldwide? The more I think about Baldwin's sleazy article the more I realise how biased it is.

A typical hatchet job by Baldwin. Sergio's opening 79 was not all that unusual if you look at the other scores as they unfolded during the championship. Many good players faltered. As for the gossip about Sergio and the waitresses etc., it reflects more on Baldwin than Sergio - someone at my club repeated this kind of thing recently - what's the old adage 'the truth never catches up with a lie'?

Chris,

Rankings are rankings. I don't put much stock into them. So whether or not Sergio is "over-rated" is of almost no consequence. But I think you are wrong about the reason Sergio is "over-rated."

Questioning his "mettle" is a little over the top. I don't think he is struggling b/c of his lack of competitiveness, or some perceived lack of courage. He has one of the more impressive records at the Ryder Cup, and has been integral in orchestrating upsets of the Americans.

Now don't get me wrong, I am no Sergio apologist. He is brash, ego-centric, etc. But calling him a "whimp" I think is WAY over the top, and inaccurate to boot.

The US Open is not his best shot at a major, for sure. His driver can be wayward, his challenges with the putter are well-chronicled. Personally, I don't think he has the skills to win an open, nor the proper personality. He does not control his emotions like a Furyk, Goosen, Els, etc.

They are the reasons he is "over-rated", in your book.

Might you have thought to mention this prior to my selecting him for my pool entry? Now the other 9 guys (how coincidental) will have to shoulder the burden for El No-No. Rapidly collapsing toward Andy North Status: Retief Goosen.
