Another idiot who thinks that if a major winner's name doesn't begin with "Tiger" or "Phil," it's almost like it didn't happen at all. Look, I like both those guys, OK? But they can't win everything, and golf won't die if they don't. Remember the early to mid '90s? There was no dominant player then, and guys like Corey Pavin, Paul Azinger, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Ernie Els, Steve Jones AND Elkington, and a host of others won majors, and golf didn't suffer because of it. So Johnson and Cabrera didn't do many special things before their major titles. It's not like they just signed up having never played before, and BOOM! create major-winning magic. And if you say that Harrington is a no-name, you shouldn't even be writing about golf to begin with. Remember how he got his first PGA Tour wins? He beat Vijay in a playoff for one, and snatched the other right out of Jim Furyk's hands by nailing a 65-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole. Beating those two guys is no small feat in itself. If anyone should be worried about no-name status, it's you, because if you keep writing junk like this, you're going to still be writing for this blog in 30 years' time. And, oh, yeah, I gotta think that if a guy named Monty ever won a major, people wouldn't dismiss that so quickly.

Cabrera is not a no-name. I can't believe
someone pretending to be a golf journalist
had no idea who he was before this year's
open.

If you think Argentina is boring, you
obviously have never spent any time in
Buenos Aires.

The most likely (and unlikely, for that matter) candidates who are American and would make things interesting to the crybabies would be Love III, Weir, Daly, Baddely and Mickelson.

Personally, I thought Zach Johnson did something great for the sport by showing that "old man" golf can win. And Cabrera... only Baldwin could find something to make him dislike a guy we don't know much about.

I found him refreshing, although you're right--he is a no-name.
