Justin, I believe that Sergio will win at least one major also. But that doesn't mean he didn't choke at some of these others. Choking is not just a physical thing. Bad decision-making under pressure in another way to gag. Sergio did it on the 1st playoff hole at Carnoustie too, shooting at a tucked pin on the right side of the green from the right rough. That shot HAD to go at the middle of the green. Nope. Bunker. Bogey. Aggregate playoff loss by one.

Fair enough, Chris--I'm not saying I disagree with you. I'm just trying to narrow in on a robust definition of "choke." Based on your reply, one facet of that definition should be something like "losing close big ones without winning any." Right? That's fine by me.

Now, how many "big ones" does Sergio need to win to erase that deficit? One? An equal ratio of wins to close losses? Again, I'm not disagreeing with you; it's just that it seems to me people argue about stuff all the time (golf and otherwise) based simply on their own varying definitions of the words their using, rather than on the substantive underlying issues.
