LPGA hires CMO; will golf bloggers be welcome?
Thursday November 30, 2006 | 08:24:11 356 words, 1471 views
After a long period of inactivity I get to blog about my favorite subject – the LPGA. This time it might be good news, but, as with everything else in the world of Ms. Bivens, we’ll just have to wait and see. This time she has created a new position, the CMO (that’s Chief Marketing Officer for all of us who are not up on the latest corporate speak), and has selected William F. Susetka to fill the position. (Darn, if I’d only known the position was open.) She made this announcement yesterday, Nov. 29, 2006, on the first ... full post »
Johnny Miller's "I Call the Shots" Awash in Errors
Saturday November 25, 2006 | 10:22:54 206 words, 1889 views
Occasionally it is interesting to peruse through the myriad of golf blogs on the internet. To save your sanity, it’s best to narrow the search down a little. If you just search “Golf Blog,” you’ll hit probably 2-3 million, so narrow is good.
Not too long ago I went for golf books, just to examine the latest happenings in the world of golf literature. Strolling through the forest of golf blogs dealing with golf books, I discovered one that had an entry on the Johnny Miller book, “I Call the Shots,” published just a couple of years ago. ... full post »
Eye On Golf is thankful for LPGA, Tiger, and, of course, golf bloggers
Thursday November 23, 2006 | 11:46:27 331 words, 1286 views
Today is Thanksgiving. The day when we should reflect on our existence and come to a determination that we are thankful for something. Well, we here at Eye On Golf are indeed thankful for a multitude of blessings. Family and health are at the top of the list obviously, but this is a golf column and focus upon that subject would be appropriate.
We really, really are thankful for a number of things in the golf world.
We’re thankful we live in a country and environment that allows us to play golf and that we have 16,00 courses from ... full post »
PGA Tour should hire Britney's Ex, K-Fed, as marketing consultant
Wednesday November 15, 2006 | 07:32:12 213 words, 1781 views
Just a couple of days ago I had a conversation with an individual who is well-known for sales and marketing expertise. This person could sell an empty bucket of range balls to Vijay. It was suggested through this individual that PGA Tour would be well served to hire Britney’s ex, K-Fed, as a marketing consultant for the PGA Tour’s new FedEx Cup. (Do you see where this is going yet?) It would be, as my marketing sage so quaintly put it, “a match made in marketing heaven.”
The logic of hiring such a celebrity is really quite ingenious. So innovative ... full post »
Tiger Woods Design another way to destroy the game
Tuesday November 7, 2006 | 07:31:43 306 words, 2216 views
I’m a fan of Tiger Woods, perhaps a really big fan – but only as a player. I love to see him win tournaments. It creates history and I love golf history. And I know he has a few philanthropic endeavors, but, primarily, he’s a player of the game. But now, Tiger wants to be a designer of golf courses. What the hell is he thinking?
I don’t care how many golf courses he has played around the world. I don’t care what experts he’s going to consult with. I don’t care how many millions of dollars ... full post »
Hal Sutton tees off on golf in America
Monday November 6, 2006 | 08:02:13 290 words, 1561 views
We all remember Hal Sutton - a player with true grit and a great career to back it up; a Ryder Cup Captain who tried to stop the European domination with a few unorthodox pairings but failed; a wanna-be course architect, and, most recently, a self-appointed guardian of the game. When Sutton comes out of hiding and grabs a microphone, it’s bombs away on the game of golf. Usually ol’ Hal just sort of rants and raves about everything and anything concerning game, but occasionally he strikes an open nerve. Focus on a few comments from a telephone interview ... full post »
