Anyone but Lance

With the Red Sox on the verge of winning the World Series - yes, it’s true, Red Sox fans - this seems like a good time to start thinking about this year’s Sportsman of the Year. Our top candidates, in no particular order: A. Lance Armstrong - Enough already. Take nothing away from his accomplishments. I’m just tired of him. B. Curt Schilling - Gutty postseason performances. Impressive charity work. Put the BoSox over the top. Clearly the early front-runner. C. Vijay Singh - On performance alone, he deserves consideration. But he’s still not going to win many popularity contests. However, he is slowly growing more likable, especially compared to our next candidate. D. Barry Bonds - Huge numbers. Huge ego. Forget about the steroids; Bonds carried the Giants this year (again). But Sportsman of the Year? Not a chance. E. U.S. Women’s Olympic Softball team - Dominant in Athens, plus the heartbreaking story of coach Mike Candrea, whose wife died just weeks before the Olympics. Probably my second choice. Did I miss anyone? Let me know…. Comments:No Comments for this post yet... Leave a comment: |
