Vijay's charitable ways
Wasn’t too long ago that Vijay Singh was Public Enemy No.1 among golf writers/announcers. In the past year, however, I’ve certainly come around on the world’s top player. The more you learn about the guy, the more you understand where he’s coming from. He’ll never be the most personable player on tour, but I think he’s made a concerted effort to meet the press halfway, and golf fans are better for it.
If you’re still in the anti-Vijay camp, consider his current effort on behalf of Asian tsunami victims.
Singh is auctioning off an autographed 2005 Buick Rainier (the same one he won at the Buick Open), plus a set of Cleveland clubs (used by Singh) and tickets to 14 PGA Tour events. The bidding starts at $25,000 at ebay, and the auction is scheduled to close Jan. 20. (The PGA Tour will match the winning bid.)
