Overshadowed in Tucson

When Tiger, Phil and Vijay left the World Match Play Championship, so did millions of viewers. Here’s hoping some of them switched over to the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.

The tournament easily has the ugliest trophy in all of sports, but don’t hold that against champion Geoff Ogilvy. Great drama in the final round (certainly more than we had in La Costa), and wonderfully true emotion from 21-year-old runner-up Kevin Na, who seems primed for greatness.

Other random thoughts on a late sunday:

You wouldn’t think the world needs another golf manufacturer. But after reading a piece in today’s SF Chronicle on Jesse Ortiz and the Bobby Jones Golf Co., I’m willing to give ‘em a shot.

Calling all insomniacs: The NFL scouting combine on the NFL Network is guaranteed to put you out in 6.77 seconds, which is about the time it took Maurice Clarett to run 40 yards yesterday.

Those Buick commercials with Tiger need to stop. Enough already. We couldn’t come up with anything more creative than Tiger driving a Buick with Aerosmith’s “Dream On” in the background? After this weekend, I’m dreaming of a Buick-free tournament next week in Doral.
