"Dream Golf" book about Bandon Dunes Golf Resort re-released
The buzz about Bandon Dunes Golf Resort just never seems to go away.
This June the resort on the southern Oregon coast just opened its fourth course, the Old Macdonald by Tom Doak, to complement the three other nationally ranked designs, Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes and Bandon Trails. To keep up with all the changes, the book, “Dream Golf: The Making of Bandon Dunes” by Stephen Goodwin, has been updated and released by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, N.C.
The vision of Bandon owner Mike Keiser is captured in the book. Keiser has built a complex with a pair of true American links courses, a place where golfers from around the world flock to soak up a marvelous setting along the Pacific Ocean. Goodwin goes back to the beginning to find out just how Bandon Dunes got it so right, focusing on the golf and the spirit of the game without worrying about business models (there are no golf carts, a cash cow at most resorts) and overpriced amenities like a spa.
The book, now bulging to 376 pages, costs $24.95.
I haven’t been to Bandon yet, so reading this book just makes me want to go all the more. I’m sure it will have the same effect on you, too.
