Give your golfer a Hug by KOALA as a Father's Day gift
Anybody who reads this blog knows the whining about my back pain never ceases. My wife, who works with Brookstone, has had enough of it. So she gave me a Hug.
The Hug, made by KOALA, is a dynamic lumbar support brace. It’s probably the best back support I’ve used since I injured my back two decades ago. In eighth grade, doctors found I’d cracked two vertebrae around the L5 region. They put me in a full cast that extended from my chest down below my hips. I hated that thing, but it did its job mobilizing my back while it healed.
The Hug is the first anatomically designed lower back device that supports the lumbar spine without placing any pressure on the abdomen. Invented by renowned orthopedic surgeon David Segal, the device reminds me of my old back brace but without that constricting feeling. The Hug forces you into good posture, which promotes a happier back.
The Hug is pretty simple to use. Just pull it out of the box and adjust the waist band to fit around your lower back. It isn’t big or bulky. You can wear it under your clothes, out in public, without too many people noticing.
Don’t bother attempting to wear the Hug all day long. It’s not necessary. Koala suggests that you gradually break in the Hug, wearing it a half-hour on the first day, an hour the second, two hours the third day and eventually building up stamina to wear it 2-4 hours per day.
It does take a while to get used to. The first time I wore it, my back actually felt tired. I took that as a good sign. The device was forcing me to use posture muscles I rarely do.
