Putting guru Dave Stockton Sr. partners with The Grand Del Mar near San Diego
I didn’t get to experience all the wonderful golf instruction programs when I visited The Grand Del Mar resort north of San Diego this summer, but I was amazed at the lineup of choices.
* A 2,000-square-foot Titleist Junior Performance Center.
* A Performance Academy featuring a 7-acre practice area and cutting-edge techniques, such as SAM PuttLab, K-Vest 3-D technology and online digital video analysis.
* Appearances by a Dave Pelz Scoring Game School and VISION54, an exclusive three-day seminar run by Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson, ranked first and second in Golf Digest’s Top 50 Women Teachers.
This all-star lineup just got even better with the addition of Dave Stockton Sr. The game’s hottest putting instructor will base his West Coast operations of Stockton Golf at The Grand Del Mar. Stockton, who won one major, The PGA Championship, has worked with pros such as Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Yani Tseng, Adam Scott and Annika Sorenstam. His son, Dave Stockton, Jr., a former PGA Tour player, will be based at the resort to run the programs.
“We are very excited about this new venture,” said Shawn Cox, director of golf for The Grand Golf Club based at the resort. “The Stocktons’ stellar reputations and teaching prowess will be invaluable assets to our Club, and we look forward to an enduring collaboration.”
Stockton Sr. adds, “We were looking for a top-tier teaching facility with amenities to match, and we found it at The Grand Del Mar.”
Grand Del Mar certainly has all the pieces of a luxurious puzzle. Tom Fazio designed the strong 7,179-yard golf course. The AAA Five Diamond resort is home to 249 guestrooms and suites; a Forbes Five-Star Renaissance-inspired spa; the 5-star Addison restaurant; four swimming pools; two outdoor tennis courts; a 20,000-square-foot equestrian center; and more than 20,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space.
