A Blog on a Blog

Win a free golf book!

A year ago I didn’t know what a blog was. Now TravelGolf.com has asked me to start one of my own. As any golf writer would be, I’m delighted to join TG’s blogosphere and lend my two cents to the topic of the day.

So where to begin? First, we stand on the shoulders of those who come before us. Thus, I owe a thank you to all the bloggers out there, golf and otherwise. And of course, thank you to the PGA and LPGA players who give us something to write about.

But the largest thank you I reserve for David Owen, golf writer extraordinaire (author, Golf Digest contributor), who has shown that those who can’t play, write. And those who can’t write, write for Golf Digest. No, just kidding. That was just a little jab for all the snarky comments he’s made about his wife over the years. He actually can write, and has shown the world that you don’t have to have a single-digit handicap to enjoy the game as well. That makes him my hero, because that is my mantra: you don’t have to be good to enjoy golf.

I once stood on the 12th fairway of the Old Course at St. Andrews, and observed two little old ladies—they couldn’t have been any younger than 75—tool their way down the course, making their shots and following them, carrying their clubs and chatting all the way. Ah ha, I said to myself. There is hope for the future. Golf truly IS the perfect sport.

So thank you to TravelGolf.com, for welcoming my perspective—that of a female hacker and golf writing young mom. I look forward to some good blog conversation.
