Annika Sorenstam three-peats; Michelle Wie proves herself
Monday June 13, 2005 | 09:53:53 247 words, 1140 views
It’s been a whirlwind weekend. Annika swept the McDonald’s LPGA Championship, making her the first LPGA player ever to three-peat a major. She has declared that this year’s goal is the elusive Grand Slam. Now she’s halfway there, and she’s shown that she can pretty much dominate at will. Is the Grand Slam in any doubt? Meanwhile, who was 2 (not T2, mind you. Just 2)? That would be Michelle Wie, the player many LPGA members didn’t think should be there in the first place. Now we see why—who would want to go up against her? She was the only one who came within sniffing distance of Annika, the only player on the field who broke par all four rounds, and she did it all with a bad stomach. Not until Sunday was she even feeling healthy. And did I sense a Wie joke from the golf gods? Laura Davies, a supporter of Michelle’s presence on the field, ended up T3, meaning she got to take home an extra $36,000 of the $164,385 that Wie couldn’t accept since she’s an amateur. “She belongs here,” said Davies. “Anyone who doesn’t believe that has rocks in their head.” Grace Park was one of those people with rocks in her head. She was a vocal opponent of Michelle’s invitation, and what happened to her? She withdrew with a bad back five holes shy of missing the cut, I mean, of completing the second round. Comments:

Hey, Jennifer: Talk about rocks in someone's head..... Baldwin's crazy to say there aren't enough beautiful women on the LPGA Tour. Take that redheaded chick in the yellow vest. She shore is perty.

Michelle Wie's play was careful, precise, and accurate. Unfortunately the LPGA site did not provide data on greens-in-regulation etc. If Michelle's putting had matched the rest of her play from Day 1 she would have easily beaten Annika.

We just witnessed the most dominating golfer in golf (in the men's or women's game) and quite likely the only other golfer capable of beating Annika's records in the future.

Don't be surprised that Annika will be beaten quite often in the near future by this young lady. She's much more consistent this year in all except the putting. It's just a matter of time with the experience and the feel of all the course she played.

I just love the way this young lady plays...I mean She is smooth, yet, so powerful...I just wish that she'll accomplish what she desires -- PGA Title!?
