Forget Tiger Woods, the British Open is all about Retief Goosen

Yeah, okay, that headline might be overstating it a little bit, but it’s worth thinking about. At the moment my favorite player is T2, just two strokes behind Tiger, and looking to make a move.

Showing his usual unflappability, he said, when asked about the U.S. Open debacle, “Pinehurst is pretty much history. I wasn’t thinking about it at all. It was one of those rounds of golf where I played bad. And I’ve been very much looking forward to this week. Pinehurst has been completely forgotten.” Well, maybe it was forgotten, before the press kept asking about it!

His worst hole on the course was No. 13. He hit into one of the Old Course’s infamous bunkers and then three-jacked for a double bogey. But it didn’t seem to faze him: he came right back with a birdie on 14 and ended with a nice low 4-under 68. That’s my boy!

So betters aren’t really putting their money on Goosen: right now the oddsmakers have him at about 12:1, whereas Tiger’s at 1.25 to 1. But what do those guys know, anyway? I bet they aren’t even taking into account how cute he is.

He da man!

Oh, and by the way, it only took Michelle Wie 13 holes to close out C.D. Hockersmith and make it to the Sweet 16, and 17 holes to close out Jim Renner to make it to the quarterfinals. Wonder how Danny Green likes them apples?

Retief will finish top five because I left him out of my lineup in my office pool. It was my last chance to choose Jack, so I did. That said, how does Chris Baldwin feel about Michelle Wie?

Your man collapsed- TIGER is the man with the composure of a champion- that what makes him separate from the other.

Jennifer...If Retief is your man you need to get out more often. He's certainly one of the best 10 players in the world...but his flaws are becoming more evident by the by. Tiger's greatest asset is he understands his enemies better than anyone...and knows that he never has to face anyone with the intensity of Palmer, Nicklaus, Watson or Trevino in their prime.
