A day in the life of the golfing mom

Win a free golf book!

I made a critical error in judgment yesterday.

I gave my 2-year-old some juice…in the wrong cup! The resulting meltdown woke up my grandmother, which is pretty weird since she died nine years ago. (Sorry, Grandma!) A rookie mistake, I know. Any self-respecting mom knows that when a tot requests a drink, mom is supposed to run through the available sippy cups like a sommelier presenting wine options. But I was in a rush and got lazy. Lesson learned.

Anyhoo…I realized the day was just going to go from bad to worse if I didn’t turn off Cartoon Network and get the kids out of the house. So in keeping with my New Year’s Resolution #3, off to the range we went.

My little ones are actually pretty good at swinging their clubs, as long as the clubs are connecting with balls and not one another’s heads. Our assistant pro ambled over and took a look. “Do you want to play golf with us?” my little one inquired.

The pro pulled out his club and demonstrated his swing. And here’s the best part: as he sent the ball flying 200 yards with his 7-iron, my little one exclaimed, “Wow, you hit the ball just like my mother!”

Not a bad day all-around.

Nice - still too cold for me to head out to the range, but playing with the kids is on my to do list this year as well. So are you hitting it 200 yards, or does your swing look particularly good from closer to the ground?

Nice to hear you take the kids to the range. I have yet to give that a try... but I will soon (if I can convince my wife that they'll survive).

How much "work" do you get done at the range? Or do you spend most of your time keeping an eye on the kids?

Greg--One trick I've learned is to let the kids swing away while I watch them, then to sit them down on the bench next to the range with a soda while they watch me. Then I can get my swings in uninterrupted, and they have my full attention when they've got the clubs in their hands. And I'm guessing once you've gotten them out of your wife's hair for a few hours a week this way, she'll be a fan.

Yes a great day after all. You need to start a book of the nice things so you can pull it out and review when they become teens.
