Annika Sorenstam taking care of business

Annika Sorenstam is adding a new item to her resume: she’s going to design a golf course.

And why not? Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Davis Love III, Gary Player, why should they have all the fun? If you want to play her course, however, you’re in for a long trip—it’ll be part of the “forthcoming Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro, which will rise on a site north of Pretoria.” Pretoria, South Africa, that is. This is actually her second attempt: her first was the Mission Hills Golf Resort in China, which she described as a “shot-maker’s course.”

“There are very few courses that have been developed with any consideration given to how it might play for the whole family,” she said. “Courses are typically designed from the back tees for men, whereas the brief at Euphoria was to design a course that will challenge men, women and children equally.”

Maybe she’ll give us ladies more than one rated tee box. We usually get the Henry Ford version of tee box selections: you can play any set of tees you want, as long as they’re red. Not that I’m complaining; I’m usually pretty happy playing off my forward tees. But sometimes I marvel over the lack of ingenuity on the part of designers when placing those red tee boxes. They cut off the dog-leg, for example. Or save cash by putting our markers next to the white markers, and calling it “a par 5 for the ladies.”

So Annika, do your best. And when you’re done, can you come build one over here?

Annika took care of a little business while leading Team Sweden to victory last week at the Women’s World Cup in Sun City, South Africa.

Right you are, Jen. There should always be 2 sets of forward tees. The bigger hitters amongst the females can always go as far back as they want, but what about providing enjoyment for the short hitters and senior women? Men always get at least 3 sets of tees which includes a shorter-than-white set for senior men. But I think you'll always have trouble with that straightening out the dogleg situation, unless the hole is a button-hook shape all the way to the green.

Jen,
Why the picture change. Wasn't that hair a bit redder or something?
And Ron Mons new picture too? He looks completely different.

And just how many bloggers are there allowed to be here.
Is there going to be a limit, or are travelgolf, just going to keep adding more and more.

The first picture of me was a mug shot from my bathroom. I shot it in the mirror. The second one is the work of a professional photographer: my young daughter. My wife kept botching that I looked horrible, so I caved and put up a new picture. Jen changed the picture because she wanted to bewitch all men with yet another gorgeous angle of her gorgeous face.
