What does the Fields Open say about the World Golf Rankings?
Sunday February 26, 2006 | 14:34:33 236 words, 3096 views
Blogger Bill Wolfrum wasn’t the only one upset about the World Golf Rankings. It was quite the topic of conversation here at the Fields Open, and just about every reporter was asking just about every player their thoughts.
And while the PC answer was always something like, “It’s so exciting to have a ranking system like this, and hopefully they’ll provide an accurate reflection of the talent on this Tour,” the true story was this: everyone hated them. Off-the-record players, American reporters, Korean reporters, Japanese reporters—with few exceptions, everyone I talked to thought they were “a little off.” Annika number 1, ... full post »
Michelle Wie at the Fields Open

Aloha from the Fields Open on sunny Oahu. Or at least it’s sunny for the time being. I hear tell there’ll be some rain coming our way in the next couple of days.

Here’s a sampling of quotes from our two Barbies.
“Other women hate me because of my looks.” (Barbie I)
“I’m just genetically gifted, what can I say?” (Barbie II)
“My driver is the best part of my game. I’m very, very, very long and accurate.” (Barbie I)
“I don’t want to be arrogant or anything, but I can probably outdrive most women with my seven-wood.” (Barbie II)
To her credit, Barbie the ... full post »
Bode Miller, the Olympics, and golf
Thursday February 9, 2006 | 20:31:09 260 words, 2271 views
Some of us (you know who you are, Golf Chick) will be tuning in to the events in Torino simply to watch Bode Miller – U.S. downhill skiing maverick, mad scientist, and speed demon. Okay, maybe he makes Terrell Owens look like a team player, but he’s also the hottest athlete alive (sorry, Retief).
And, oh yeah, he’s a golfer, 10 handicap, started playing in his teens in New Hampshire during the state’s annual three months of bad skiing.
Considering his ability to read slopes better than anyone, it’s no wonder that he’s pretty good on the greens as ... full post »
